Wands

Is there a reason there are no wands available for sale anywhere IG? I have only played on TSM, and haven't checked every store on BG, but I would think that wands would be for sale in Silverymoon at least. Is there some balance issue that has kept them out? I would think players of magic users and rogues would like to have them available.

How are PCs supposed to ask about wands, if they can't even learn wands exist because there aren't any wands to begin with? :chin:

I know of at least two PCs whom can craft Wands :)

Now that we've revamped the Cast Spell type itemproperty pricing, there is no particular reason we couldn't have wands for sale at merchants on the servers. Prior to the repricing, wands were wildly overpriced by the toolset, requiring massive negative cost modifiers in order to be brought in line with PnP / ALFA pricing. Since wands lose base value proportionately with remaining charges (but the price modifier does not similarly scale), it caused all sorts of problems in terms of PC net worth calculations and buyback.

I'd expect to see a few wands added to appropriate merchants here and there in the next weeks or months, depending.

[edit: as an aside, the PnP Use Magic Device rules for wand activation have not yet been implemented for ALFA, so I'd prefer not to endorse widespread dissemination of such items into the hands of non-casters until such matters have been accounted for. It's not too onerous a coding project, but should probably take a back seat to the custom skills / starting region / 1.23 work.]
