Restriction: Curse Song

Hello,

I understand the bard ability 'Curse Song' is not allowed.

I'd prefer it was allowed.

Can i see the reasoning behind this from standards or the relevent rule maker?

If it's canon, then fair enough. However, a bard is hardly the strongest of PC types and we've let other non-PnP things such as max hit points giving mega bonus' to warrior classes carrying on (no i do NOT want to talk about HP rates again lol).

If it's overpowering, i'd disagree. Sure at level 20 with all things combined, it's powerful. But by level 20, clereics, wizards...almost anything is way ahead of a bard.
However, alfa is ganerally <level 10 so it's not THAT bad....and still well behind most classes. Bards have rubbish spell power and progression, only moderate AB, only 6hps, are a multi-ability class, can wear armour sure, but only light (as effective as mage armor). The bard is hardly one of the classes that need nerfing. Esp given the relative infrequence of DM events and in some cases the opportunities for grouping with other PCs.

I like it as it ads a really 'nasty' edge to bards. Gives them some badness and allows the more aggressive skald type builds the right flavour. Crashing into battle, roaring horrible words to terrifying their enemies instead of just encouraging their friends.

Anyway, thoguht i'd ask.

Cheers
Dorn

Non-canon and overpowered in conjunction with inspirations, apparently.

Reading through those show why Dash is disallowed as well.

The reasoning that it only has any use as a tool for CvC is flawed. I wouldn't take it myself (especially as I'm playing a barbarian now already), but I do think it should be allowed for one very good reason: It makes running away from PvE combat a much more viable option.

And the other reason to take it would be to move from place to place a lot quicker.

I think it has become obvious that the true purpose of Standards is to aggrandize human fighters and clerics into the only viable PC options. Get with the program and roll one up!

Well, 5% quicker anyway.... That's roughly 19 minutes instead of 20. Though I'm sure if you crunch the numbers enough you can show that over a year of daily playing that could allow an extra 100 xp from fed ex quests. PG'er ban!

As a side note, in my time in ALFA I only CvC'ed once. Is there some gladiatorial arena for PC's somewhere with rich rewards for winning that I never found?

I've probably been in a good seven or so during my time. They do happen.

There was much discussion about banning *all* inspirations. I think the only thing that prevented it was the difficulty in implementation.

So spellcasting prodigy is left in making the most powerful classes at high level s(casters) more powerful but this gets cut?

;)

Anyway, given the lack of input from the DMA staff i'll assume nickDs response is the 'official' one by proxy.

thanks anyways

super lame! hey i have a new idea for something to ban! how about we axe cleric domains and next on the list we could start on weapon focus and weapon spec. hells seems it's a banning free fer all so lets not leave any class untouched or it might start to seem "unbalanced".

OR

we could play the game as intended, and leave it as is and trust our players. we have a system in place for dealing with PGers but i doubt it gets much use because everything is banned anyway.

sorry fer the rant folks but the more i see banned the less variety and funny differences PC's seems to have.
