Handling area-specific PrCs

In NWN2 mechanics, four PrCs are tied to some specific areas of Faerun: Arcane Scholar of Candlekeep, Neverwinter Nine, Red Wizard of Thay, Shadow Thief of Amn.

What I propose is the following:

For now, we got one Live server (TSM, 03) and three server proposals which are due for Live in a reasonable period of time: Moonsea (06), BG (10) and Western Heartlands (11). With minor modifications, each of the above PrCs could become a server-specific PrC. The advantage being an added incentive for additional server mobility for the player base, as well as special flavor for each of those servers.

Concretely, each of those four PrCs would become available in a specific server only, according to the schema below.

Arcane Scholar of Candlekeep = available to BG (10) players only

Neverwinter Nine = rename to Silverymoon Nine, Lady's Alustriel's personal guard and available to TSM (03) players only

Red Wizard of Thay = available to Moonsea (06) players only

Shadow Thief of Amn = rename to Shadow Thief of Scornubel, available to Western Heartlands (11) players only. Scornubel canon certainly justifies the existence of such a group.

Thoughts?

Sounds good, but what if a team wants to make the actual area? All Red Wizards have to travel to the Moonsea are a rite of passage?

Can't you just go
Arcane Scholar of Candlekeep -> Arcane Scholar
Neverwinter Nine -> [Gods knows what....]
Shadow Thief of Amn -> Guild Thief (or something similar)

And Red Wizards are everywhere as it is.

The problem with making server specific ones, when you only have four, is that it may get fairly unbalanced (for a lack of a better word). What happens if Waterdeep or Skullport go live? Do we have to make another PrC specifically for them? Or do they simply miss out?

But yeah, just for the record, this was how PrCs were originally planned - each server would have a few specific ones that only they could give out.

We still have the Harper Agent in reserve.

Could always change, or add extra locations.

It's an interesting proposition, particularly for the more area-specific PrCs.

All in favour except the nine thing.

It sounds queer to admit people to such a specific group that´s number is limited in whole Faerun, whatever it may end up to be.

Not saying it couldn´t happen via rp, but as a PrC...

More logical to make it something like Bodyguard, Protector, whuteva, but not part of nine particular posts in whole Faerun.

The PRC Neverwinter Nine, would be Knight in Silver or Knight Errant in Silverymoon I think.

Apart from that, I really like the idea. Realms flavoured PC's is very FR in my opinion, and should be strived for.

Neverwinter Nine doesn't fit for Knight in Silver. NN is all about diplomacy, KiS are all about whooping your ass.

If we did this we should restrict Shadow Thief to WD, not Western Heartlands. The Shadow Thieves have a presence there, and there's no reason to invent a group that would easily be confused with the pre-existing Shadow Thieves. No reason to change the name either. I'm not sure about the Red Wizard logic either; aren't they directly at odds with the Zhentarim?

Sure - the details can be changed; I'd like to hear what people think about the principle.

Would this prevent a PC with a PrC from traveling to another server?

That depends on the plots that they inherently get involved in. A member of the 9 might be restricted to Neverwinter, but equally he might be ordered to leave on a specific mission.

That comes down more to dutie/responsability/chain of command than the actual PRC.

Red Wizards would be more prevalent on the other servers than the Moonsea.

Only two cities have actual Red Wizard Enclaves -:
1. Mulmaster who are strong allies of Thay due to a political marriage between the High Blade of Mulmaster and a Thayan Tharcioness (Princess). This makes Thay enemies of Zhentil Keep by association.
2. Hillsfar as Maalthiir was beginning to cultivate a tentative trade agreement between Hillsfar and Thay, that was before he "disappeared" after Hillsfar was invaded by demons and devils.

Since the Zhents recently took over Hillsfar, its a fair bet that there will be major tension, if not "disappearances" of the Red Wizards in Hillsfar.

They may get a foothold in Melvaunt and Phlan but there's no Red Wizard infrastructure there currently. There is no chance of them moving in on any Zhent controlled cities, Harper "haven" towns or Thentia because powerful mages move there deliberately to get away from "guilds"of any sort and the rest of the Moonsea is pretty much wilderness and ruins :)
