A Land Far Away

So this week Rusty wants to know:

If you are currently building/scripting for NWN2 do you intend to:

1) DM Live when we get there.

2) DM on a particular server when it gets to Live and build until then.

3) Just build, even after Live.

4) Something else.

I've invited posts rather than a poll because it is useful for me to see who is intending what. Er, and you don't have to just post a number... explanations also welcome.

4, I guess? I'm not a member of any particular build team, and am trying to keep my work focused on general global systems, integration, and hosting support. I was originally intending to contribute to a team as a DM-builder, but the team dissolved and the need for central scripting and hak support became paramount.

If the central systems get into the shape that we're satisfied with them, and/or if we get more help in that area, I may try to do more building and less scripting, testing, hak and 2da editing, etc. In that case I may more technically "join a team". If that happens, I may consider DMing for NWN2- though honestly it would be with a good deal of reluctance due to negative experience in the past- dealing with everything from problem players to undocumented plots, to balancing time with tech problems and building, to willful exploiters, to dealing with the constant pull between trying to tell a story, versus trying to faithfully represent a world.

So most likely, I'll be scripting/testing/implementing/helping- with some building, and maybe some playing here and there if I can manage it. Doesn't sound like much fun, unfortunately. But we shall see.

Probably 3. I certainly don't plan on DMing the OAS; if I was heavily involved in another server then I might be tempted to pick up the wand.

3. Building is something I can do in my own schedule, which is heavily unpredictable. I might have whole weeks in which I can do nothing but build and then I might have weeks in which every other hour--morning, day and night--is spent on a rotating schedule of craziness. Besides, those PCs are too unpredictable. I like my nice, orderly, controlled creativity these days. I might--MIGHT--have my arm twisted to DM one-off university events on TSF, but don't count on it.

Don't fret, though, Rusty, that most of the answers seem to leave us DMless. When we've built it, they will come. Those with the hardware are still fewer than those without, and the interest isn't there without the modules built. Not to say that we won't need DMing drives and drumming up of business, but I wouldn't be concerned at this stage.

Build till I am done what I want, then DM. And if there are others servers, play, too.

I don't have any intention to DM-in game at this point.

However when I get to late beta/live, if I dont have DMs I'll have to do it but I'd prefer just to build as I my times dont match many alfans..
