Thangs - 1; Corruption - Nil

Post by Thangorn »

Hey fellas,

I've got a little issue..

The Moonsea mod that Blackwill put up on the ftp for me is corrupted.. I bought a rar repairer and with it I managed to extract the mod however the client wont open it as theres some sort of checksum mismatch in the file.

I've left various messages for Blackwill to put a new version up but he is uncontactable for whatever reason. The thing is, this mod contains all the Moonsea interiors that I need for beta and I'm ready to put it all together now that Tani's Terracoppa is working again.. Its such a tease as when I open the toolset I get a brief flash of the names of the 40+ areas in the mod and then the toolset refuses to open it.

Now while I wait to get back in touch with Blackwill, I would love it anyone here can help me fix the mod file enough to extract the areas I need out of it. If any of you have any corruption repair techniques I'd love to hear it...

Thanks folks

- DEzza

Is the mod saved as a module file or as a directory?

If directory, things are easier to fix.

I'm not sure how you can recover from a corrupt mod file, but try extracting it with a mod unpacker tool anyway and see if you can examine the parts individually. If you can separate the areas in the module, then perhaps you can salvage some or most of the content in the mod. Odds are against you if you're dealing with a bad checksum or crc.

Ouch. :( Really sorry to hear it. I hope you can get a hold of Blackwill sooner rather than later and get your hands on the rest of it.

p.s. Just to rule out all the possibilities, are you sure you're downloading the mod file in binary mode? Uploading or downloading in the wrong mode will guarantee a corrupt file.

Its possible Blackie didnt upload in binary. I've done a whole series of operations (including double checking the binary download) to try and sort this but its not happening.

I hope I can get ahold of Blackwill soon too, I dont relish the idea of redoing all that work :/

That's quite fortunate, i lost the area for myth drannor i was supposed to make due to corruption (that new area bug)...was never able to recover it.

I understand the pain very well, but i can only imagine what it'd be for a whole mod
