Canon and starting date

Post by Dorn »

I'm sure it's covered elsewhere but i just wondered if there was a final resolution by Lead on:

a) What year ALFA2 starts.

b) What Official WotC Canon events have happened/not (if any deviation from what had officially happened at the above date)

c) Does ALFA1 canon count

Basically if i was going to build something do i have to check with the former HDM of that server tro see what's happened, and maybe read the LAst Mythal series...and so on.

So your saying no Rogue dragon stuff happened? Im brain dead so please elaborate for me. K, thanks. If you dont include it your really screwing the Tiamat group since a lot of shit has been set in motion with the end of the Year of Rogue dragon series.

Rusty care to comment? Both the Mythal and Rogue dragon series are over and signifigant changes to Faerun. Im wanting to know because it will have a major impact about if I and im sure others in our group even stay in ALFA.

Per Wynna's statement of March 23, 2006, as these series were incomplete at the time building began, it was decided that they were not to have occurred before Live, and instead could be played through by PCs in ALFA's NWN2 servers.

Having them play out isnt a bad thing as long as they are agreed to have happened sometime during the beginning of ALFA2. They are canon and play a major impact on not only our group, but the entire canon setting of Faerun.

We sure on The Last Mythal series? Pretty sure the MD crew was planning their server in the near wake of that series, otherwise Myth Drannor proper wouldn't be habitable in any way, shape or form. I've read them recently, sounds like the understanding was after the events of the books, but before the (5+ years later) epilogue at the end of book 3.

I believe when, I was lead, we did reach a decision on or at least discussed this. I recall talkin' about usin' up-to-date canon at whatever point ALFA decided to go live with NWN2. Most of what Wynna and co. determined at that time is considerably out of date, and/or based on a lack of solid knowledge.

If the regime I was part of didn't change this, 'cause I know I/we intended to, it probably should be changed to at least coincide with up-to-date events. That is if we plan to use WoTC canon.

I'm sure we can alter the position from that statement; we just have to make sure that we do so consistently, and that all builders know where they stand. What we cannot have is different teams adopting different canon starting dates etc.

I vote to start after Rogue Dragons and Last Mythal as both affect my team's and other team's (Myth Drannor especially) module greatly... What process do we have to go through to make such a change?

If you go with the events after Rogue and Mythaal then it would be 1375 Year of the Rising Elfkin. I cant remember off the top of my head what the date was at the end of Mythaal, but it was like 1380. From what I read MD wouldnt be complete and had just been overtaken. The growing of the new Spells, the Tree, and all that would have just be happening inside the new city they refounded.

As for the Rogue stuff...1374 is when all the tearfalls began again and Tiamats church grabbed over 50% of the new dragon eggs. Bahamuts group grabbed a good portion that was left and the rest never were recovered or hatched on their own. Im sure by 1375 the Dragonfall War could be in full swing as well as the new stuff thats happened to the Cult of the Dragon with their new leaders ;)

Anyway...I hope all the teams can agree. A lot of new stuff has happened and its out in the Mythaal series, Rogue series, and also in Rage of Dragons source book.

I vote we start at the first day 1375DR..

The Book "Blackstaff" runs into this period so I guess I'll wait to hear from teh Waterdeep team as to where they want to start.

anytime in 1375DR would be my second choice.

1375 sounds good. After the events of Blackstaff, Rogue, and Mythal? I don't see any reason why we couldn't have all three already occurred given how long it will be before we go Live.

In Don's current absence, and as much as I'd prefer the Archwizard Series to not have occurred, I'm sure our team will be fine with anywhere in 1375, or whatever suits Waterdeep.
