Crafting system

Has there been plans made to include a crafting system in the NWN2 ALFA that doesn't need a DM present.
Basicaly a CNR system, tweaked to however you like I guess?

We first need a non-scripted system. We're working on such for NWN. If we can get that in place, we can script the lower end should the Admin support such. CNR and the like have a *huge* historical destructive affect on every PW (going back to MUDs) ever to use them - don't expect unlimited freedom if we do some form of automated crafting.

ALFA hates crafting, Blackwill, so I dont expect to see a decent system. It will be tweaked with senseless rules and take any enjoyment out of it.

Hey now, we are working on it. And considering the group working on it loves crafting keep your expectations high.

Good progress has been made. Did you have a crafting system on Haze/Pentinence Blackwill?

Well, I guess I'll stop wasting my time with the attempt then...

good.
Honestly, too many folks here dont want crafting and your mucking it up with so many stupid rules to be able to do anything. Sitting in front of a anvil for 3 days straight (rl) is just plain stupid. Folks should have to take some time to make an item, but your just making it asinine.

Nice attitude dude.

I call em like I see them.
If ALFA does crafting make the majority of crafting items able to be done without a DM. Make all these items mundane items. I wouldnt even have a problem with a limit being scripted in for items if folks sold them to a vendor. I think any major items made (and can be agreed on) should take some amount of time (DM help). I would like to see recipes that are rare that might be included from random npc kills/bosses.
My biggest gripe with the system is having a DM babysit a crafter. No one needs a DM to hold a persons hand to make mundane items, but I do agree for the better stuff. As long as the system isnt convulted then it can be a good crafting system. Just dont nerf the hell out of it even before its implemented. I like crafting a lot, but there comes a time when you tinker with it so much its a waste of time.

Then you need to read the current stuff going on in the CTC threads and not bring that crap out here.
Thank You

No OC I think you'd be best to just let Dan do his own thing.

omfg sky is falling. Oh wait, that is just my iq from reading dan's posts.
Seriously though... Yea. ALFA takes forever to do anything, but no need to be an ass about it to people who are trying to get it done.

Perhaps I'm the odd ball here, but I'm really not offended by what Dan said or really by anyone else who may voice their thoughts on a forum like this. It's just an opinion and we're all free to state them, so let people say what they wish. It in no way
obligates you to read, like, or respond to what's been said and frankly, it's just less work (and perhaps more effective) to read and ignore an offensive post than to reply with your own salvo, moreso the older you get.
In the end, all of our work will be judged through the eyes of individuals and the work will appeal to some but not to others. Expect it.
Hey...but isn't that life? (rhetorical question)

I understand, with all the politics going, that implementing new systems would take time. And I'm not really wondering if ALFA for NWN will have such a system, because the time is getting rather limited that it will be useable. I am really interested if ALFA for NWN2 will figure out such a system during the launch period.

Yes, we've always had a crafting system. In Haze it was insanely complicated with huge recipes for certain crafting creations. It was basicaly CNR, but our own take on it. Tuns of ingredients and recipes to find out there. I've seen the good and the bad sides of such a system in a comunity.
Let me start with the bad:
- Hoarding of ingredients and raping of ingredient spawns (like trees). There was discussion that this should be tackled by adding certain code or a rule. Though rules are harder to police IMO.
- Crafting nuts. Yes, some people made crafting their main goal, and just logged in mainly to create whatever and ignore RP at worst times. This is pretty rare though.
Now the good:
- It allows for more player freedoms. It creates jobs, and PCs willing to fill them. For example becomming a smith. After buying a smithy, actually producing things regularly is easy, because no DM has to dedicate any time into it, you only need the crafting stations there.
- Trade, work and quests come from rare recipes. Many ingredients are rare, and need a little quest or some trade attached to them. This supports more Role-Play.
There are certainly more bad and good points I haven't mentioned. But for me the good outweigh the bad.

good points, Blackwill. Bad sig, though. too long.
Look forward to seeing what Haze2 comes up with for NWN2 and crafting.
