Single and two-handed wielding
Something that has always gotten my panties in a bunch is that in the neverwinter nights games, the bastard sword is automatically considered an "exotic" weapon. But the rules for D&D state that the sword proficiency is only considered exotic when the character is choosing to use it single handedly. I would love for there to be the option of using two hands when it comes to the bastard sword, making it a martial weapon proficiency. I can see using the sword single-handedly to be an exotic style (because no sword fighter who cares about his degree of control would want to), but using it two-handed would be incredibly common - especially considering it was one of the most widely used and favored weapons of medieval europe.
The ability to single and two-handed wield could also be used for the katana and certain longswords.
This may be a bit off topic, but I didn't know where else to put it. Sorry.

It would be a difficult simulation at best I think.
Something like, when two handed mode is activated:
Something like, when two handed mode is activated:
- Give the player the exotic prof
Do not allow the use of other exotic weapons
Do not allow anything to be equipped in the off hand
Grant a damage bonus equal to 1/2 the strength modifier
Why not just retag a Greatsword as Bastard, then give it an onUse to swap it out with a Bastard Sword (and vice-versa)? Require Exotic Feat to fire the onUse, and tag the Longsword version NoDrop if you *really* don't want them falling into the hands of non-prof peeps (or fire the same swap script onAquire).
Still more work than I'd want for this feature, but easier than all the scripting.

this doesn't just apply to bastard sword in dnd you can wield basically any weapon that isn't allowed to be used with weapon finese, in two hands.
aka long sword/scimitar/battle axe.
Thus a system where if no weapon in off hand then bonus .5 str modifier to damage. If weapon can't be used with weapon finese, and aren't those weapons already tagged because they can be used with that, so use that same tag to limit the bonus damage here....

This might get in the way of some PrC's that give bonuses for using a weapon one-handed, with nothing in your off hand, like duelists. Assuming they are ever implemented.JspecWip wrote:this doesn't just apply to bastard sword in dnd you can wield basically any weapon that isn't allowed to be used with weapon finese, in two hands.

While we're fantasizing, how about a function to throw your melee weapon for a ranged melee attack?

I would have thought it might be something like a power attack feat. Selectable for specific periods during combat that gives +.05 str modifier damage and -1 AC or something.JspecWip wrote:this doesn't just apply to bastard sword in dnd you can wield basically any weapon that isn't allowed to be used with weapon finese, in two hands.

But that would be difficult probably.... wonder if the animations would work?

Wouldn't apply to duelist because all the weapons they use can be used with weapon finesse so they would not be granted the bonus anyway.
And if the .5 bonus to damage is just given as a modifier (If that can be done) Animations don't have to be changed, and it bypasses the problem of equiping an off hand weapon/shield once the main hand weapon is equiped, if you changed the tag on the item on equip w/out a shield in the off hand.
like this... on equip
Item:xxx = Weapon finesse taged? : yes = done
Item:xxy = Weapon finesse taged? : no : sheild equiped? : yes = done
Item:xxy = Weapon finesse taged? : no : shield equiped? : no : =
+ .5 str bonus damage
Or Change weapon size +1/ change tag to two handed/ character size -1 and Change animation type to Great sword/Great Axe
this would give the animations as well but I thik would be more difficult and then you couldn't equip a shield or off hand weapon once your main hand weapon is equiped. But that would get rid of people trying to equip a shield after they were granted the bonus to damage, but on shield equip it could wipe the bonus to damage as well...maybe, I duno
i'm not a coder so I don't know how all this stuff works, just using what I see as logic but feel free to chuck it out the window on account of actual knowledge/experiance.
Your on your own on throwing melee weapons

You mean when a hin uses a longsword, it's not animated for two-handed use with a .5 str bonus? *sighs*Rotku wrote:The thing I really want is small versions of large weapons for the smaller folk around! But I guess the above is a second best to that.
Yeah, if duelists only use finesse weapons, then the one-handed check seems like an elegant solution, even though there would be no two-handed animation.

Anyone that knows about coding think what I posted above is possible?
