There will be ECL and it won't be exactly by the book. I talked with WotC about it in depth on a couple of occasions (Ed Stark was a tremendous help on this) and we've got a system I think will work well for our game. More details at a later date.

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
They thought all their bullshit rule changes would work well in NWN1, as well.

How can ECLXP = NormXP * (Level) / (Level + ECL) be that tough? Or are they scared about people languishing in level 1 as an ECL character in the single-player campaigns?
Oh well, at least the numbers should be easy to get at rather than going off a switch/case statement by the subrace.

Many of the balances requiring ECL might not be applicable to a computer platform so that's probably why they would adjust the balancing.

I'm content with them just ruling a lower ECL number in that case. That said, it's not like there aren't plenty of different ways to similarly balance. I'm just a little hesitant (Ed Stark namedrop or no) that we'll get something of the implementation caliber of Discipline, Parry, and Bonus Damage.
At any rate, I'm guessing they'll at least prototype the critical elements that we can just script away if it looks crazy. So at the very least, building some kind of system will be good enough for our purposes.

mayhaps it will be something we can change via haks.
