NWN2: Standardization of True Resurrection

I'm not opposed to the rezomatic option as long as it is in keeping with PnP conventions (as best we can manage within the limitations of the game engine). ALFA is 24/7 and DMs cannot be online at all hours. But I really hope we get this straightened out the next time around in NWN2 ALFA. It must require the material component of a diamond of great value. And this should only be occuring when the fallen PC is a worshipper of the same deity as the priest. Or perhaps we can broaden it to include all deities who are allies of the church's deity. For example, perhaps the church of Lathander could also make resurrection available to worshippers of Eldath, Lliira, Lurue, Siamorphe, Oghma, Milil, Gond, Kelemvor, and Chauntea. At any rate, it is ludicrous that a worshipper of a deity such as Bane would be raised at a temple of Torm, let's say. So let's be sure to standardize True Ressurection in NWN2 ALFA's core scripts, and in our base mod.

This has not been made so already?

I dont know if it works this way in the manuals, but i would have it use the standard cost if you are at a priest of your diety or a very close ally of your diety (eg Sune, Sharess and Hanali all live in the same place and generally represent the same things), slightly increased for other allies, and refused by enemies.

Errr rezzies quiet common then? (geeze its been a long time sorry)
Well Lem sounds like its a good idea to get these restrictions put in place.

Evidently it is not as standardized as one would hope, ideally.
To whatever extent this is not 100% in practice today it's the sort of pitfall we can avoid with everyone using the base mod for NWN2, is really my main point.

I have used diamond shards in the past its a great way of restricting the amount of rezzies, I thought it was pretty much a fact that all alfa servers for nwn2 will use the base mod?

NWN 2 will be 3.5, so hopefully we'll use the far most costly 3.5 versions of raise dead, resurrection and true ressurection. That itself should make them far less common than they currentl are.

This is why I don't have any scripted rezzes.

If players can wait for a DM'd session, they can wait for a ressurection.

Agreed. Scripted rezzes are just cheesy.

how about no rez at all? you die... omg your dead! I guess for some thats a little hard to understand so they need a way out, but if it was up to me, no rez no matter what.

Drankathar, ressurrections are a part of FR. Not often, but they are a part of it.

Scripted rezes are okay with me as long as they remain true to the spirit of PnP.
Resurrection spells belong to D&D, I have no issue with that. A rez doesn't have to cheapen perma-death. First, diamonds of rez quality can be extremely difficult to come by. A truly precious commodity not only as gems, but perhaps especially because they have such tremendous value as a material component for this miraculous spell (which btw 99.9% of the population of Faerun will abosultuely have no idea of--read the FRCS pp 92-94 on Magic and Society). In addition to rezes being available only from temples of the deity the deceased worshipped (or possibly temples of the deity's allies), I also believe that such scripting should include a one time only dice roll representing the possibility that the deceased wishes to remain in the afterlife, the deity disapproves, or the spellcasting fails. And this should be not much better than 50%. Maybe a 2/3 chance at best. So within these parameters an attempted rez is a rather big deal. A diamond which is truly rare must be obtained at great expense (and possibly risk, or possibly presenting a moral dilemma by requiruing theft). And the spell will fail a good deal of the time. So it may often be the case that comrades will choose to let the deceased rest in peace in the afterlife.

The PC should be given a token when given a scripted rez so that no more than one can ever be obtained. PCs that have been rezzed 3 and 4 times are far too common and smack our permadeath rule right in the face.

And those who have been rezzed 6, 7, 8 and more times kick our permadeath rule right in the hairy pair.
