Yeah I recognize it as topic drift, again though... "here's a 6K weapon no one else gets, in exchange for ____________", filling in the blank that I think presently exists, becomes more important.

PS, no offense to the rare paladins of Sembia, but how they could've even played for an hour without needing to team with one of ten evil PCs is beyond me.

Its already been determined what that _______ is. The Special Mount class feature that paladins get at level 5 normally, which cannot be reproduced in NWN2. While that is not available, this class feature (offered as a variant in pen and paper for those who do not wish a mount) is easily and readily able to fit into NWN2. And for refrence, it doesn't begin as a 6000gp+ weapon. It starts +1.

On that note, though. Since the ALFA rules is a max of +6 (which, in the far-off distant land of level 20 this weapon becomes), removing the paladin self-enchanting ability might make sense, so that it just upgrades itself every 5 levels. (+1 at 5, +2 at 10, +2 holy at 15, +2 holy lawful at 20).

+1 Longsword: 2330gp

Made of good aligned Frystalline from the Mountain peaks of Elysium: +2500gp for a medium weapon. (only +1500 if Small, like a shortsword for a halfling paladin, or +3500 for a Large weapon, like a Tormite greatsword)

I'm just trying to come up with the comparator weapon, ie, one that could be bought off a really funny store's shelf.

(The Paladin though does no purchasing, they simply either auto-receive, or quest for their "celestial" weapon... whose material, hardness, etc. is indeterminate, same with how subject it would be to a rust monster's attack)

EDIT: Forgot that small, medium, and large weapons made of frystalline break out at 1500/2500/3500

Well, unless stated otherwise, its just made of steel like any other weapon. The class feature doesn't offer special materials in the base text. And frystalline is a special material, and an expensive one at that, as there are much cheaper ways to make a weapon good aligned (1000gp being the lowest I know of). So 3,000gp roundabouts. Could even remove the good aligned if its too much of a gold piece issue (which I don't think it is, but throwing it out there as an option.)

+1 This sounds awesome.

Doesn't the supplement paladin with the heirloom weapon lose all spellcasting abilities?
The power of concealment lies in revelation.

This is a variant class feature which replaces the mount. As it is now in NWN2 there is nothing making up for the loss of that ability.

Veilan, you're thinking of the non-magical paladin variant, a completely seperate paladin variant.

Sword of Celestia - Give up your mount at 5th level and instead gain a celestial forged weapon (see the description in the dragon magazine I posted, as well as the summary posted in this thread).

Non-Magical Paladin - Give up all spell casting ability to gain bless weapon 1/day, Holy Sword 1/day, and some other really dumb stuff. That variant is from Complete Warrior.

Is it me or did we just lose a dozen or so posts from this thread?

****

Just an aside - how useful would the mount feature be, if we had it?

Effects on group travel would be minimal as you would have to go at the slowest speed in the party.

Proportionally speaking, how much combat in NWN takes place out of doors where the mount would be useful? The size limits on external areas suggest that the mount would be proportionally less useful even if it were available.

Not saying it is or isn't, just pointing out that it may not be as useful as it might initially appear.

Bump! So is this being considered or where are we at?

This is going to remain up on top until someone responds.

Yeah, a mount would be strange in TSMs cramped environ. A sword would give paladin's an edge over your average villian. Paladins might even start naming their swords so there could be roleplaying there. . .

Player A. "Oh shit did you here about Steve? He's carrying Legendary Blade of Bob. Watch out for him. I saw him do this and that."

Player B. "Oh yeah? That's nothing. I witnessed bob cut through that and this."

What I'm curious about is what happens to the paladin when the blade is destroyed. Is it linked like a familiar?

Is this even being considered anymore, or have folks just ignored and abandoned it?

Never seen this thread before. Think it was discussed in the Standard's forum though... will go searching.

[Edit]
No, I tell a lie. Twice. I have seen this, and it was here, not there. Just haven't read it.
