Perseverance works for me, I've had this problem a few times and I just keep tying, it eventually starts up.indio wrote:So here's a funny thing...my DVD of the game refuses to be recognised by any of the 3 DVD readers in my house. SecureRom madness. Currently I am without a toolset and am quite behind. Just an FYI.
Indio - I'd see what you can do about ripping it sans SecureROM. Totally silly that the industry basically forces you to learn how to cheat them in order to use your legal copy. Guild Wars had the answer.

I believe the newest version of DaemonTools can run a mounted copy of NWN2. Haven't tried it myself, but I've heard that.Fionn wrote:Indio - I'd see what you can do about ripping it sans SecureROM. Get that civil tone out of your voice GF. It's unnerving.
A DVD drive I extracted from a 2 year old box at work fixed my problems. I've made a 32x32 area in miniature, and I really hate it, so I'm not even going to post screens. It's going to be a fair bit harder than I initially imagined to get this to work as I'd like, but Heegz's screens do give me some hope.
While this method is going to leave some dry, it's probably our only chance at some small degree of area continuity in the ALFA campaign. I still like the idea a lot, but making it happen in the toolset is a genuine stack of work.

FWIW
I think the map system in the OC is going to be fine. Is it possible to open up areas on the map to players by ID? That system could be a good way to limit access to players 'in the know' about certain world events, factions etc...

Hmm how about a delay in the oc map use? Say something like 15secs that sends a message to the dm saying group A is going to area B? This would allow the dm to fire the "random encounter" scrypt to slow them down and prep the area for them. Or have them face Multiple encounters in a row of merchants, animals, etc..
I dont want to have to travel thru a minature landscape...that would ruin the experience for me.
Hmm on thinking about it a bit, you could have the delay at the end of the load up screen, last longer, and actually have some "on screen dm narrative" of the travel, area, and "feel" of whats to come.

Would people still object if the map and scaling truely looked like a bird's-eye view of Faerun? In other words, realistic, not some goofy cartoonish-map? Because I'm shooting for graphical realism here, and I think its mostly-obtainable. If it is obtained, I'd think it would increase immersion, as a player would be able to to get a sense of his/her place in Faerun.

Yes, read the thread
The scale of the map is set by the builder, and the scripts automatically adjust PC size and movement speed to match (so movement rate / Faerun distance is constant across ALFA).

The map is an outdoor game area, similar to any other except in appearance (and the lack of the ability to fight, amung other things).ElCadaver wrote:That depends on whether the map has a scrollbar option I suppose. Can the map cover the entire screen?
I was thinking about this, essentially the server zero concept tossed around in NWN1. I think the scaled outdoor map can realistically handle the geographic area of a single server, but a single map for all of Faerun would be a bit much, if that's what you meant.Ronan wrote:Would people still object if the map and scaling truely looked like a bird's-eye view of Faerun?
