OR (and i know this is a radical idea) we could just remove weight from gold, seeing as it has had fuck all effect on RP and has simply made things more difficult (I dont even know where the tradebar merchants are for NC/AC, because it is so totally OOC for my character to carry her gold like that).
I have not seen any quantum leap in RP that arrow and gold weight would supposedly have, according to those who advocated for it.

Either implement a simple to use system that provides IC options for all classes to carry wealth or remove gold weight altogether. Sadly, ALFAs way is to form committees to propose overly-complex rules that effectively undermine the whole purpose of what they set out to do.Swift wrote:OR (and i know this is a radical idea) we could just remove weight from gold, seeing as it has had f*sk all effect on RP and has simply made things more difficult (I dont even know where the tradebar merchants are for NC/AC, because it is so totally OOC for my character to carry her gold like that).

I didn't want to be the one to point that out, but I agree with Swift. What positive effect has gold & arrow weight truly had that justifies the hassle, pain & OOC it has caused we continue to put up with? Was there really much of a gain/any gain in RP from it? Is this truly worth the complexity? I realize this is a sacred cow to a few, but I think its time for it to become hamburg. The only true net effect this has had was a 5% conversion 'tax'. There are much less complex ways to do that... There is still not the permanent storage that was supposed to support this nor are there the banks to support it. With most of the infrastructure to support all this way behind where it probably should be, why continue with a fairly unsupported system? Is it really worth this much?

That's *one*Vendrin wrote:Well NU is set up for Gems as a currency. Easy access to permanant storage for all players and good buyback for all gem merchants.

Just dump gold weight and go back to rp'ing.

Well I've seen the players with a decent amount of gold store the majority of it in pchests except when they want to make a purchase.
Not many buy gems at the moment since they just keep the most gold in their pchest and don't want to have to worry about any exchange rate while within the city.

I would much rather see coinage of copper and silver being the standard fares like in Torment. It makes gold what it is - GOLD! I would love to see a realistic economy fill up the merchant lanes and I am all for gold weighing what gold should weigh - about .1 lb a piece. I mean, for gods sake, a piece of paper weighs that much in the game, yet with the normal system my character could carry Fort Knox in his codpiece, yet never budge a phonebook. I think the gem system would also be a great system, but I don't believe it should be the replacement of other currency. Trade bars are realistic and were commonly used because any merchant with a scale could figure out what the bar was worth, unlike gems which took a lot of knowledge to appraise.
Thats my two platinum, gold, silver or copper.
