Heh as a drow i've become used to look at the login screen to know if i would actually get people to play with, either a dm or a drow fellow. If you didn't know, i've spent 5 months playing a drow priestess completely alone with about 1-2 hours with a dm overall (westgate+shadowdale cave). That leaves you pretty "crazy" about playing alone...so my brain says NO MORE RANDOM WANDERING. Obviously, that also gave me the meta information of whoever was on the server.
That, however, has never affected my roleplay...i personally don't give too much of a damn if you're lvl 9 or lvl 1, in fact my pc's have been slain many times by characters waay above me, simply because i don't let the levels dictate my character behavior (either because i am a stubborn bitch or because my characters are too fucked up to realise the crap they're in).
Hide PC levels?

I would love it if the classes of PCs could be hidden. Rogues and assassins especially would hide what they are!
Levels, well, I am not so sure. While it would keep players from being bullies to low levels while being fawning sycophants to higher levels, it would also keep players from being bullies to low levels while being fawning sycophants to higher levels.
Yes, I meant to be repetitive. What I am getting at is that a PC would be able to guage the competence of another PC to some degree. Quality of equipment, stance, how others reacted to him or her... lots of things go into such an assesment. But it is not exact. A PC could be trying to disguise this sort of thing. Seeing the levels is just too precise.
But I am guessing that we are stuck with what we have.

Any idea yet if levels and or classes can be hidden at login for NWN2? Man, do I hope it is possible, as unlikely as it seems.

I may have just missed it, but I couldn't see any way to see who was logged before logging into a server on NWN2, and when I was logged in I couldn't see what class or level they were from the player list screen. And when you're partied in NWN2, I don't think you can see other player's HPs, just the bar.
Current PCs:
NWN1: Soppi Widenbottle, High Priestess of Yondalla.
NWN2: Gruuhilda, Tree Hugging Half-Orc
