Facilitating PC to PC transactions

Post by Castano »

If our PCs were online 24/7 they would be doing stuff other than adventuring...one thing some of them woudl be doign is sellign times they find or make.

We already allow DM'd crafting, and we give loot to PCs...sometimes the item made or the loot found is nto what the PC wants.

Some PW's have a system where a PC can post an item for sale with a merchant.

After speaking w/ Keryn, who was frustrated that his bow making PC has yet to IC sell a single bow to another player, I propose the following:

1. A merchant where a PC can place an item on consignment

2. That merchant can then offer that item to players via a menu for some amount of gold

3. Once sold, a portion of the gp is placed on account for the PC, say 85%

4. The PC may stop off at the merchant to collect their gold IC.

Haven has a menu driven system that does at least steps 1-3. I believe the gp is auto credited, but am not sure.

We would need some sort of table to keep track of PC gold, so I envision combining a persistent storage system, conversation driven store and banking system to get this done.

If we leave off item 4, we can do away with the bankign component, but that makes the system slihghlty OOC as an PC could be 1000 miels away and receive a payment they should IC ignore, so I would rrather keep item 4.

Any interest in adapting an existing system like Haven's crafted items store to our use?

I think it woudl make ALFA feel a lot more like a PW and be a nice addition.

As it adds almost no load to DMs i'd be stoked to see this.

I have a 200+ year old Elf using a human made bow right now ( )and who has heard a LOT about a certain Sywyn and his craft among other elves. If we were in same timezone i'd have one of his bows...probably a few.

And i think the OOC problems about being credited $ thousands of miles away should be ignored if it adds simplicity. Not being IG for a RL week is OOC for our characters but many of us do it. Besides, if you're at a level sufficient to be crafting, a few $ here or there is probably nothing to you so shouldnt be made an issue.

Just make sure the under-cutting of other NPC shops is kept within 'realisitc' boundaries.

I think this would be great. To allow PCs to sell their items in the IG world, in a store or owning their own store and leave their crafted items or others for sale in their place... Great idea, and it would be very cool to have IG. And from what I can see since we already use a pstorage system, it would be easy to implement a system just to allow crafters to show off their items, like a container where other PC can look but only the owner can retrieve items and place more inside.

If we have the time and resources going next step and link such an item with a NPC with a convo and automatic selling that would be simply amazing.

I find the auction system on Haven/Kemo is great and really works with the high deposits in keeping wild amounts of gains.

However without a properly inplemented crafting system (with mats for sale for example and the resulting crafts), it would be sparsely used.

Still a player marketplace PER server located in a key capitol city only would be a great RP tool.

Commerce is always great for RP venues.

while mats are may not be automated, they could be an easy hook for DM sessions. Having an outlet from those sessions would be nice for the players.

If the mats are controlled then the volume finished products that are released to market are under DM control.

The process of getting a Merchant for a player or group of player shouldcould be a RP event itself.

fun idea!

A tech lite version to help in this could be an IG message board, where replies could be left. With some OOC information included ((contact me by PM for times, forum name xxx)), this could facilitate the trade, or if the TZ issues are irreconsiliable, then a DM might even lend a hand in the middle.
