+1 to Veilan, who in a rather frightening turn of events I find myself agreeing with a lot lately.

I would also like to add that I don't really want to read longer bios. TLDR. I would be more likely to support giving level 2 to anyone who can get all the relevant information into a paragraph or less.

Lose the hoops. Just do it, or don't.

I don't think this is true, unless TSM's statics have gotten crazy in the past year, and/or the explicitly posted policy on not farming statics are being ignored. 1000 xp in a DAY OR SO??

IF this is actually the case, then we've got more urgent problems than debating a lvl 2 start. Hell, if this is true, we may as well let people start at lvl 4 and have mobs drop vorpal weapons.

If things are indeed to the point where you can shoot to lvl 2 in a day, and PC's are coddled to the point no one dies, then there's no point to allowing starting at lvl 2.

Veilan wrote:Why worry about longer backstories opened up by level 2? We're here to experience stories, live, and in game... we're not in some kind of creative writing competition. The more of your characters story you can develop in game, the better, no?

Also, I'm a member on these boards longer than you both!
I am not meaning we need to write 4 page backstories. Maybe an example can get my point across better.

Lets say someone wanted to play a barb/fighter and his backstory was that he was captured and enslaved. He was made to fight in the pits. Thus, the barb/fighter level at start up. I understand you can argue you can do this in-game, but in all seriousness, the DM that are on have more than they can handle as is. I would rather see a dm put their time into their plot lines than worry about my little back story which could be handled with the level two start.

On a different note, the dates associated with this forum are bogus. I know Magile and I have been around much much longer.

Don't freak out now. Those same statics kill 4 out of 5 level 1-4 characters.

As per farming, you have to do a heck of alot of farming with 1xp gobies to make a dent in anything. And we Dms check the log *gasp.* So when someone is seen obviously running to do patrols faster OR stacking statics, we stop them. Better yet, TSM stops them dead in their tracks on it's own.

TSM is a bloody dangerous place to move around in solo.

I'm going to shut this thread down, I think. Polls been polled, discussion has been discussed. Nothing new really to add. Just sit back and wait - I think OGR may be posting up the Admin's thoughts soon.

Based upon the results of the recent poll regarding the ALFA current Level 1 Starting Level, Admin has considered and debated whether to make any change to this rule. The poll results and opinions for and against a change were considered, as well as various proposed compromise solutions. Both the community and Admin are divided on this issue. One thing we all agreed on was that any change so fundamental should be based on a strong consensus within both the community and among Admin. Accordingly, after careful consideration, given the lack of a consensus among the community and Admin, a decision was made that no change to the current rule should be made at this time.

Thank you to all who participated in the poll and voiced their opinions and suggestions.
