Door naming ?

Post by Aelred »

I have been wondering what everyone thinks about using the name field to place names on doors for the PCs to see. You could then know that a building was the "Green Door Tavern" or the "Temple of Gond", etc. Interior doors could have directions "up", "down", "out". The doors in an Inn might have room numbers. We could even use it as if there were an actual sign posted on the door - "STAY OUT", "No Vacancy", "Help Wanted." This would be a possible option instead of using one of the shop signs.

I'm curious to hear everyones ideas regarding this. Do you think it will take away some of the immersiveness? Is this a detail that should be standardized across servers?

I use the door labels all the time. I wouldn't put "SUPER SECRET LOOT CHAMBER" on 'em but there are plenty of uses.

I really like the idea for general use where signs aren't suitable. Like EXIT, room numbers, up/down, and so on. For stores and similar landmarks, I think I prefer using signs. They stand out more and invite interest, which means a player doesn't have to mouse over every door in the module simply to locate a shop.
