WATER + UNDO BUG ALERT!

Post by ç i p h é r »

FYI. I seem to have encountered a serious problem with undo and water. I posted this on the NWN2 1.06 bug thread so hopefully it'll get the proper attention.

Here are the steps to reproducing the problem (tried it 4 times) and what you want to avoid doing (unless you like the results):

1. Select terrain with water in it
2. Erase some of the water in the terrain
3. Undo the erase

All the water in the mega tile turns into a perfect sheet of ice. No ripple. Totally smooth. And completely transparent.

Here is a screen shot (it looks this way in-game as well):

Fiddling with the water properties doesn't fix it. Importing water properties doesn't fix it. Repainting the water doesn't fix it. Applying undo again doesn't fix it. Reopening the area or module doesn't fix it. Duplicating the area doesn't fix it.

Cipher - certainly you have angered some water nymph or even the "bitch queen" herself!

from Friday June 22 NWN2 vault news
http://nwvault.ign.com/show_archives.php

Toolset issues with 1.06 final
From this list, these are the issues that are valid (can be reproduced)

1. Unable to search for scripts on creatures. (Should be fixed in 1.07)
2. Red Roofs (should be fixed in 1.07)
3. Undo removes water (should be fixed in 1.07)
4. Opening dialog opens the Animations Tab (Which tab would you like it to open?)
5. Toggle between male/female model in Armor Set Tab (should be fixed in 1.07)

I've grown so used to working without an undo feature that I'm finding it hard to use it now that it exists.

I was used to working without it as well, but it's great for a little experimentation right where you're looking/working.

Aelred, yes I saw that list. It's in the 1.06 bug thread on the NWN2 forums as well but this isn't removing the water. It's altering the water properties on the meta tile. Can any of you reproduce it? The only possibility I have not explored is updating my video drivers. I suppose there's a slim chance that could be the root cause but I'm loathe to change what's not broken (because then something usually gets broken).

Having patched at the weekend I now find that I either can't load certain areas (=crash), or the toolset crashes when deleting grass (and that was tonight's job - optimising some areas by deleting some grass. Bother.) And yes, I've seen the Bioware forums.

Anyone else have this problem, and do you get an error pointing at an amd memory manager dll??

I haven't had any problems deleting grass yet, but I do have problems with the memory manager when opening areas for the first time. Toggle off as many options as you can in the toolset (top bar) to minimize the amount of memory the rendering engine requires. This works well for me and outside of a few crashes while first trying to open the module, I don't experience any further crashes once I get past that (typically takes 3 tries then I'm good - odd coincidence I know).
