its an effective 2 AC and to hit for missiles.
Its an effective *permanent* (baring dispels) 2 AC and to Hit from missiles, and initiative.

Bear in mind

1) that the warlocks primary attack power is, in fact, a missile.

2) Since it is a ray it ignores all but dodge/dex, and if the Warlock beats his opponents Init roll (thanks to his dex boost) the opponent won't get that either.
So he'll only need a total of +10 to hit. +2 is a pretty big portion of that.

3) A warlock doesn't need a high INT, WIS or CHA to use his base blast, allowing him to easily plough a lot of his points into a very high starting dex.

Playing a Hin Warlock, base dex 18, in the 03 Beta at the moment, and with the aid of this spell my starting AC with studded leather armour was 20, (the same as a Dex 12 fighter with full plate but no shield) starting to-hit with missiles was +6 ( I went with a heavy crossbow till I got my blast to 2D6). Excluding Feats.

Mechanics wise, one point I have noticed about the blast is that when you roll a 20 it acknowledges it as a critical hit, but then doesn't make a threat roll or do additional damage.

My biggest worry about the warlock class is proper RP. If that's done right then the rest doesn't bother me.

ill say amen to that.

as to what your saying mayhem, it basically comes down to min maxing a character for most effective use instead of making a fun character. kinda the same with most classes.
The warlock has only so many useful invocations. while the other half is near useless in most cases. So nerfing the class further would result in? likely no one playing it coz the survival chances be null. that cant be the idea i think

also in melee the blast provokes an AO unless ya make ya concentration check even with combatcasting at low levels ya need a dc15 so yer gonna have a problem when you get in a melee situation.

If we see 100 warlocks likely something is wrong and ill admit my wrong.. but as far as i can see.. not gonna happen.

yavanion, i believe that was fixed but i could be wrong.

A halfling with a stating dex of 18 is a long way from being min-maxed, in fact.

I quite agree that if a PC is RPed properly the rest isn't a problem - but I also feel pretty strongly that converting a power which gives +2 to a bunch of skills to one which gives +4 to a primary attribute is a pisspoor piece of conversion.

Nerf it. Won't affect the way the toons are RPed.
