Wealth Guidelines/Hard Limits

Post by Keith Mac »

This topic doesn't seam to be solved to my knowledge. I think it is a simple question at this point and should be ruled on one way or the other to end the debate. Be it via a community poll or the current ADMIN ruling, either way it should be posted and discussion could then be limited.

As I see it there are three options and without pro's con's etc and please no debate here...just posts that can aid a decision only:

1. Wealth awards as guidelines(ATD's current implemented system)

2. Wealth hard cap/limit(Leave the how out for now please)

3. No Wealth worries period/free for all(No chance but still an option)

I would sincerely appreciate this issue getting put to bed asap as it pertains to NWN ALFA 2

Tech is implementing the wealth guildelines approved by standards, Admins, and the HDMs. In other words, ATD's.

Sounds nice and all but where do we actually get to start listing decisions going forward? Where is the "ALFA 2 Rulebook" that states we will be using the same guidelines in the same manner as we have in ALFA one?

I think it is important to decide if we will be going with #1 or #2. This is a highly debated issue and it would be prudent to come to a collective understanding one way or the other IMO.

If number two is implemented it will probably be in addition to number one. I don't think they are mutually exclusive. Perhaps it would just all be rolled up into one system though. Also, I don't think there will be any formal Admin decisions until all five positions are staffed. That would be roughly 11 days until the DMA election finishes, and then discussion/polling after that. I think any sort of resolution like you are after would be the end of Jan. at the soonest. The new ALFA website for NWN2 will probably also go up around the end of January, so I'd say just be patient and wait for things that are in motion to come to fruition.

The existing wealth standards carry over unless admin overrides them.

And for the record Keith, I wouldn't oppose 1 lvl / month, no. But I don't like the idea of having to manage that out of game. We build the rule into the game so there cannot be exceptions and we free DMs of one more out of game responsibility, or it's all a moot point to me.

You cannot seriously implement a rule that means players can't reach level 2 in less then a month. That is sick! Even by ALFAn standards.

Nearly every player world that has ever existed has had it made possible that you can reach level 2 in a day if you are really enjoying yourself playing one weekend or at longest a week~ish if you are the pop on for an hour here or there type. At level 1 you kill a rat and it's got you 5% of the way to level 2. Do a few statics, literally a few, and you hit second. Oh and then you are XP capped for a month! Good luck keeping that PC alive if it's anythign other then a barbarian or fighter with toughness feat and good bye ALFA if you implement that rule. People would play for a day then log of to discover somewhere else and forget come back.

The wait for level 3 would be pretty annoying too.

I think one level a month could work out only if it was implemented for level 4 to 5 upwards.

Lots of people in ALFA will play a character and make it to level 2-3 and die within a week and then start again and again and after about 5 characters you get one that hits 5th maybe 6th and becomes more survivable. That's when they become a project, that's when they become fun and you start thinking of what you want to achive with a PC and that's when the overseers or whatever the oppressive, PGer/witch hunter, paranoid types should start watching for fast potential levelling.

People who Power gamed up to 5th level then die alone soloing through an orc camp never did anything to spoil the game experience IMO except for provide these random caches of gold and gear that push those who find them over the wealth guidlines and so induce the harrassment behaviour of those who like to harrass and control!

/me smacks Cynon

Alright, let me nip this in the bud. This thread is not about character levels. Looks to me like Cipher posted on the wrong thread. But, since the concern is presented here, the ongoing discussion is up to level 3 in a month, with a possible max of one level per month after that. This is clearly not set in stone and it is definitely still being reviewed. As such, there is a possibility no limits will be imposed. It's the nature of things, when you step in the middle of a policy discussion and declare it broken, that you'll look rather comical.

Now chill before i neuter your PGing arse.

This is currently being determined in anticipation of NWN2 going Live. It is probably more likely that levels 2 and 3 will be reached more quickly, if anything. There should be more information once the discussion is wrapped up.

I'd be sick if I couldn't PG my characters to level 3 in a month! :o
