Re: Adhoc Play: A discussion
What drew me to ALFA specifically was curiosity. I'd heard a fair amount about ALFA, some good, some bad, and thought a first hand look would be educational. I prefer playing in DM'ed campaigns, the less linear and more open-ended the better. I prefer playing in fixed time slots on a regular basis, ...

Re: Detect DC on traps
AFAIK, there's no take 20 for trap detection.
Has Alfa messed around with the trap detection scripts, 'cause I've not seen this problem myself before - and certainly not on my own PW; non-rogues should definitely not see higher DC traps with vanilla game engine settings.

Re: Detect DC on traps
I've no particular problem with non-rogues not being able to spot traps in a scenario, but you need to be careful about laying traps which are impossible, or nearly so, for you party rogues to spot. If a rogue's maxed out his trap skills and taking the precaution of moving on detect mode and stoppin...

I'm rather new to ALFA, so not familiar with all the history/logic behind these three rules, nor too inclined on digging thru past archives as to why they're in place. I currently play on a number of different NWN1 PWs of varying size and staff, and own and operate a small PW of my own. All of them ...

The efficiency of the game host seems impecable (sp) I became quite jealous of their set-up and am now trying to recreate a presence for our game that is as cool and efficient. I mean I was in there looking to recruit players and was nearly recruited myself...if I had the time I probably would have...

Something else you might consider with your OAS sessions is having 1-2 of your current ALFA members take part as PC mentors to newbies PCs to ALFA. They could play the IC role of team leader(s)/recuiters(s) and help smooth the way for your new arrivals. This also helps psychologically on NWC in &quo...

How to make NWC work for you.
The following is a reposting of something I wrote up for NWC which I think might be of use to those ALFA folks thinking of tapping into NWC. For the full thread I refer you to... http://www.neverwinterconnections.com/forums/index.cfm/fuseaction/viewmessages/id/40908/page/0.htm#169690 While far from...

I'm new to ALFA and not particularly familiar with all the ends and outs of how things work here. Thus, I will not attempt to argue for or against any of the standing practices here. The following are what I've developed based on my 30 odd years experience in running pnp games and 3 years of doing t...

Tapping into NeverwinterConnections (NWC)
Having read thru the recent player shortage thread, I thought I'd offer a few random comments and observations on how NeverwinterConnection.com (NWC) might be a useful source for ALFA. NWC is very decentralized as there are very few active moderators and the owners are very much hands off unless the...

I started D&D way back in 1974 with the 1st printing of the original 3 paperback books in the ugly white box. At my first con, I played in a game DM'd by Dave Arneson himself - a dungeon crawl thru Blackmoor. My mage was one of only two survivors out of an original party of 8. I started DM'ing a...
