I'm right there with witch. NWN1 traps were just a cheesy way to bleed a party who was too tough to bleed with warmup monsters. Unlike Mulu, I'm not remotely convinced that this is about anyone unwilling to admit they're wrong. I still believe, very strongly, that traps should be limited in scope (q...

200-300gp/d6? Why, oh why do so many people seem to have this massive misconception that traps are some sort of amazingly powerful PC genocide devices? On second thought, it's tough to come up with a single unified scheme - too many things come into it, but I figure 100gp (spike) to 300gp (lightnin...

Just by way of comparison to some SRD items Your comparisons are all useable by anyone, thus fail. Traps are specialized and can backfire. Continuing this thought, the proper pricing comparison should be to scroll spells that do equivalent damage. For that matter, maybe what rogues in ALFA NWN2 nee...

I'm only worked up about this because I *know* it is a retentions issue. People like Rusty, Veilan and yourself may think that losing a few newbie members over stupid rule changes is no big deal, but for all we know the new players we lose today could have become the pre-eminent builders/DM's/HDM's...

Thank you for confirming who I need to blame. I thought so. BTW, I think this trap fiasco is further proof that Standards should be dissolved. Since when did the DMA, whose job is supposed to be to supervise DM's, become the homerules maker of ALFA? First planetouched, then traps, both taken out of...

I don't think traps are unbalancing in NWN1 (if used within reason), but I do think some of the trap kits do way too much dmg. But quiet honestly, I doubt you can safely defeat challenges 4CRs higher with traps in NWN2. The greatest advantage NWN1 traps had going for them was the take 20 system. Ba...

Again, ALFA NWN1 has, through several years of playtesting already proven that they are not unbalancing, so that argument fails. Wrong. My PC defeated challenges about 4 CRs higher than him through traps without taking any damage and at only marginal expenditure of funds. They were unbalancing unde...

Yeah, I should have known better than to believe the peeps saying portable traps weren't in PnP. If anything, they are even better represented there. Guess that kills the PnP argument against. Weaksauce. A couple of prestige classes (lord help me, the actual Trapsmith class is god awful - Combat Tr...

I view this issue as essentially the same as removing a random selection of spells from any of the casting classes' spellbooks. Does it harm them? Most certainly. Does it make the class useless? Of course not. Is it neccessary? Completely debateable and in the eye of the beholder, but I say no. One...

But now you've just shot yourself in the foot, as the AT camp is controlled by a simple rule rather than a tech intervention, so why not make a simple rule for any game-breaking combos? Here would be my brief, and minimally invasive, recommendation for Warlocks: - Treat use of walk unseen/flee the ...

But they are stronger than the counter arguments presented so far of CvC balancing (an impossibility) and PnP fidelity given that we aren't playing PnP. :P Sadly that's not quite the argument - it's the two of them together. It's the lack of fidelity causing a CvC imbalance that's the issue. It's w...

Standards is starting to remind me of the Tennessee Valley Authority. Having fulfilled it's purpose with wealth standards (running power lines to rural folk), it now strives to find a reason for its continued existence. Just to clarify a few things - I'm not really with standards. I'm only marginal...

Have any of you all actually played a warlock? I played one in the SP game - a drow warlock infact. What a worthless character. Infinite ranged attacks are just not all that great in a world of sudden and decisive melee. As I hit the high levels, where the warlock was supposed to be great, I was so...
