Talos (pronounced TAAHL-ose), also known as The Storm Lord (and long ago as Kozah), is the Faerûnian greater deity of storms and destruction. His dogma is self-serving, demanding utter obedience from his priests and instructing them to spread destruction where they might. His followers are known as Talassans.

== Worshipers ==
The church of Talos is small by the standards of a greater deity, and his followers are fanatical in their love of destruction. The clergy have no formal hierarchy; obedience is enforced through might. Priests of Talos are fond of extorting sailors and farmers, threatening that Talos would bring destructive storms upon them if they did not placate the angry god. They are wont to pursue wealth and luxury with many indulging in acts of random or spiteful violence, pillage and banditry. Talossan clerics are also committed evangelists who sought to gain converts through fear or the enticement of raw power.

Clerics of Talos wear black robes and cloaks shot through with teardrops and jagged lines of gold and silver while high clergy wore blue-white ceremonial robes streaked with crimson; all of whom wore an eye patch. Talassan clerics generally multiclass as barbarians, sorcerers, wizards, or as the Stormlord prestige class.

Worship of Talos is outlawed in many countries. Most Talossan holy sites are secret because of the church's reputation. Public churches often take the form of castles or fortified strongholds that lay on earthquake fault lines or in the path of storms or lava; Talos ensures they remain unscathed.

== Relationships ==
Talos iss close with Auril, has a flirtatious rivalry with Umberlee and a grudging alliance with Malar, who would kill him if he could. He also hates deities that promote building, learning, nature, and the altering of weather. Chief among his enemies are Chauntea, Eldath, Lathander, Mystra, Sune, Deneir, Gond, Helm, Mielikki, Oghma, Shiallia, Silvanus, and Tyr.
Sune (pronounced SOO-nee), also known as Lady Firehair, is the deity of beauty, with governance also over love. Her dogma primarily concerns love based on outward beauty, with primary importance placed upon loving people who responded to the Sunite's appearance. Her symbol was that of a beautiful woman with red hair.

== Dogma ==
Beauty is more than skin deep. It issues from the core of one's being and reveals one's true face to the world, fair or foul. Believe in romance, as true love will win over all. Follow your heart to your true destination. Love none more than yourself except Sune, and lose yourself in love of the Lady Firehair. Perform a loving act each day, and seek to awaken love in others. Respond to love at least once in a day. Encourage beauty wherever you find it. Acquire beautiful items of all sorts, and encourage, sponsor, and protect those who create them. Keep your own body as comely as possible and as attractively displayed as situations warrant. Let hairstyle and clothing best suit your personal appearance, striving to stir and delight others who look upon you. Moreover, hide not away, but always seek to present yourself to those around you in a pleasing variety of garbs and activities so as to move them with love and desire. Love those who respond to your appearance, and let warm friendship and admiration flower where love cannot or dares not.

== Worshipers ==
Sune's highest priest is known as the Heartwarder, usually being the most handsome/beautiful clergy member both inside and out. They are expected to keep their appearance as flattering as possible and shower others with sweet words at least five times a month.

Sune's clerics seek to bring beauty to the world in many forms, all of which are pleasing to the senses. They create great works of art, became patrons for promising actors, and import exotic luxuries like satin and fine wines. Her followers also enjoy looking beautiful, and hearing tales of romance. The stories range from star-crossed love, true love overcoming all else, to following one's heart.

Her temples usually hold social salons and displayed mirrors for use by lay parishioners. Some of them even have public baths for the local populace. Her shrines often stand on the corner of busy city streets. They would have a small ornate overhanging roof with a mirror underneath. They are used to check one's appearance while honoring Sune with prayer. Some shrines even hold perfume and cosmetic items for those who could not afford such luxuries themselves.

== Relationships ==
Sune is served by Lliira and also by Sharess. For saving Sharess from her, Shar considers Sune her enemy, resulting in Sune giving her aid to Mystra in her struggle against Shar and the Shadow Weave. She is also allied to Milil and Lathander, as well as Selûne, who once served her much as Sharess does now, but has since gone her own way. Sune is also known to enjoy long-term relationships, and many casual flirtations.

The Lady Firehair dislikes the Gods of Fury, as well as Tempus for the destruction they caused to beautiful things. Despite this, she has no true enemies among the gods, as the Gods of Fury dislike all others and Tempus considered her too flighty and therefore irrelevant to be worth the conflict.
Silvanus (pronounced sihl-VANN-us), the Forest Father, is the god of wild nature and druids. Silvanus is one of the oldest and most prominent deities in Faerûn, and the wilder counterpart to Chauntea the Earthmother. His worshipers protect places of nature from the encroachment of civilization with vigor and are implacable foes of industrious peoples.

== Dogma ==
Silvanus sees and balances all, meting out wild water and drought, fire and ice, life and death. Hold your distance and take in the total situation, rather than latching on to the popular idea of what is best. All is in cycle, deftly and beautifully balanced. It is the duty of the devout to see this cycle and the sacred Balance as clearly as possible. Make others see the Balance and work against those that would disturb it. Watch, anticipate, and quietly manipulate. Resort to violence and open confrontation only when pressured by time or hostile action. Fight against the felling of forests, banish disease wherever you find it, defend the trees, and plant new flora wherever possible. Seek out, serve, and befriend the dryads and learn their names. Kill only when needful, destroy fire and its employers, and beware orcs and others who bring axes into the forest.

== Worshipers ==
The Church of Silvanus has a pervasive influence, especially across the continent of Faerûn. Non-worshipers often view the Church unfavorably due to its tendency to disrupt expansion into woodland, sometimes with violence. Examples of rituals for worship are entreaties for spells at sundown or in moonlight. The Dryad Dance is a replenishing ritual of wild, wayward dance that called out dryads to join the ritualists for mating. Most Silvanite clerics, sometimes referred to as Forest Masters, also function as druids or rangers.

== Relationships ==
Whilst having no superiors, Silvanus is a long-time ally of Chauntea, despite their clergies' differences. He is also allied with Lathander. Silvanus is served directly by Eldath and Mielikki, whom some call his daughters, and indirectly by Gwaeron Windstrom, Lurue and Shiallia. Silvanus resents the destructive nature of the storm lord, Talos, and the Lady of Poison, Talona, who encourage disease beyond what was natural and reserved his greatest hatred for the Beastlord Malar and his followers, working against his insatiable bloodlust at every opportunity. Silvanus despises life-threatening impulses in anything.
Shaundakul (pronounced SHAWN-da-kul), the Rider of the Winds, is the Faerûnian lesser deity of traveling and travelers, exploration, caravans, the wind, and mining and miners. Recently, Lord Ao gifted him with the portfolio of portals and portal-walking. He manifests bodily as a bearded man who wears a traveler's cape and is armed with a greatsword called the Sword of Shadows.

== Dogma ==
Spread the teachings of the Helping Hand by example. Work to promote him among traders, especially trailblazers who seek out new lands and new opportunities. Unearth and resanctify ancient shrines of Shaundakul. Ride the wind, and let it take you wherever it blows. Aid those in need, and trust in the Helping Hand. Seek out the riches of the earth and sea. Journey to distant horizons. Be the first to see the rising sun, the mountain peaks, the lush valleys. Let your footsteps fall where none have tread.

== Clergy and Temples ==
Members of the clergy are expected to live off the land and work as guides and protectors of travelers, caravans, and mining expeditions. Many serve as guides for adventuring companies or as explorers. A very few are Harpers. All seek to visit the scattered shrines of Shaundakul (particularly the great one in Myth Drannor) as frequently as possible and to construct new ones when they acquire sufficient resources. Ever since Shaundakul added portals to his portfolio, his clerics have been tasked with locating and identifying portals that would be useful for trade and exploration.

Shaundakul prefers to be venerated at shrines, most of which are uninhabited and in remote places. Typically, a shrine to Shaundakul is a stone dais built atop a high place, crowned with a stone seat or throne, and accompanied by one or more stone pillars pierced with holes through which the wind whistles. Many such shrines exist throughout the Moonsea and the Stonelands, some of them over a thousand years old. Shaundakul is not commonly worshiped within cities and he has few formal temples as a result. Because the clergy members love to wander, his few temples constantly have new clerics arrive as others leave.

Shaundakul's clerics wear a dark swirling cloak over garb appropriate for the trail, and favor dark colors and silver in general. Many wear their holy symbol on the back of their gauntlet (usually leather or chain mail).

Shaundakul's church is loosely organized, and its branches are largely independent. There is little in the way of formal hierarchy, although those who served the Rider of the Winds prior to the Godswar hold positions of great respect in the church. Since the Time of Troubles, several military orders have been founded in the name of Shaundakul. The Fellowship of the Next Mountain is an order of rangers and clerics who typically work alone, blazing trails in the uncharted wilderness areas of the Sword Coast North and Moonsea North. The Knights of the Shadow Sword are an elite order of fighters and rangers based in Shaundakul's Throne and dedicated to cleansing Myth Drannor of the evil that haunts its streets and ruins. Initially, they are fortifying the ancient Myth Drannan temple as a base of operations and sending out scouts to reconnoiter the ruined city. The Riders of the West Wind are an order of clerics and a few rangers who hire themselves out as a mercenary company to guard caravans heading through uncharted wilderness to distant lands.

Their holy day is the Windride, which is celebrated on the 15th day of Tarsakh. On this day, Shaundakul causes all his clerics to assume gaseous form at dawn, if they cannot wind walk on their own, so that they are carried with the wind. They return to normal (and are lowered safely to the ground) at dusk, usually in some place they have never been before.

== Dogma ==

== Clergy and Temples ==

Shar (pronounced SHAHR), the Mistress of the Night, is the goddess of darkness and the caverns of Faerûn, as well as a neutral evil greater deity. Counterpart to her twin Selûne, she presides over caverns, darkness, dungeons, forgetfulness, loss, night, secrets, and the Underdark. Among her array of twisted powers is the ability to see everything that lay or happened in the dark. Shar's symbol was a black disk with a deep purple border. Shar is also the creator of the Shadow Weave, which is a counterpart and attack upon the Weave, controlled by Mystra.

== Clergy and Temples ==
The clergy of Shar are a secretive organization that pursues subversive tactics rather than direct confrontation with its rivals. In addition to her clerics, Shar maintains an elite order of sorcerer monks who can tap Shar's Shadow Weave. Among her worshipers are the Shadovar of Thultanthar, who fled into the Plane of Shadow before Karsus's Folly. Shar also holds power over all who use the Shadow Weave.

Although the estimated one hundred thousand worshippers of Shar can loosely be deemed members, its true membership consists of the clergy of the church, who number around three and a half thousand. The faith is forbidden in many areas of Faerûn and this leads the church underground, practising in hiding much of the time. An element of fear is associated with the worship of Shar since many of her followers are willing to give their lives in her service.

The clergy of the Church of Shar use corruption and subversion to spread Shar's faith, but they must do this in secret in many places due to the religion being forbidden. The atmosphere of the organization is one of unwavering faith to its leader, Shar herself. Disobeying an order usually results in death. Although devotees are perfectly willing to give their life for Shar, she often does not intend for this to happen because it will deplete the number of her dedicated followers.

From time to time, Shar requests of her priests that a certain individual, usually a sorcerer or wizard who she deems to have misused the Shadow Weave, is killed. On the other hand, Shar can forbid such acts against specific individuals. It is not uncommon for the church to make use of the Shadow Weave itself, although Shar holds onto the deepest and most powerful secrets of the magical force.

The clergy of the church will travel in small groups or individually throughout Faerûn, often disguised as merchants or pilgrims to avoid detection. Their missions usually involve either espionage or murder.

The church is split into individual cells that can operate independently from one another, often having a temple or shrine as their focal point. Cells are linked by the leadership of a priest, and one priest will typically control the cells in a geographic area. Priests communicate with one another, but rarely reveal truthful information to their inferiors.
Oghma (pronounced OGG-mah [15]), also known as The Lord of Knowledge, is the neutral greater power of bards, inspiration, invention, and knowledge in Faerûn. Oghma is the leader of the Deities of Knowledge and Invention and his home plane is the House of Knowledge. His symbol is a blank scroll.

== Worshippers ==
Those who worshiped Oghma include artists, bards, cartographers, inventors, loremasters, sages, scholars, scribes, and wizards. Oghma's clergy can be of any alignment, unlike most neutral gods. They often wear Oghma's symbol, a silver scroll on a chain, as a necklace

== Relationships ==
Oghma is the leader of the Deities of Knowledge and Invention, which also includes Milil, Deneir, and Gond.

Oghma's most common foes are Mask, Cyric, and Bane.

== Dogma ==
Knowledge, particularly the raw knowledge of ideas, is supreme. An idea has no weight, but it can move mountains. The greatest gift of humankind, an idea outweighs anything made by mortal hands. Knowledge is power and must be used with care, but hiding it away from others is never a good thing. Stifle no new ideas, no matter how false and crazed they seem; rather, let them be heard and considered. Never slay a singer, nor stand by as others do so. Spread knowledge wherever it is prudent to do so. Curb and deny falsehoods, rumor, and deceitful tales whenever you encounter them. Write or copy lore of great value at least once a year and give it away. Sponsor and teach bards, scribes, and record keepers. Spread truth and knowledge so that all folk know more. Never deliver a message falsely or incompletely. Teach reading and writing to those who ask (if your time permits), and charge no fee for the teaching.
Mystra (pronounced MISS-trah), the Mother of all Magic, formerly known as Midnight, is a greater goddess who guided the magic that enveloped Toril and its surrounding space. Mystra tends to the Weave constantly, making possible all the miracles and mysteries wrought by magic and users of magic. She is believed to be the embodiment of the Weave and of magic itself. Mystra's symbol is a ring of seven stars surrounding a rising red mist, spiraling to the heavens. Mystra rules over the divine dominion of Dweomerheart.

== Worshippers ==
The church of Mystra preserves magical lore so that magic will continue and flourish in the future even if the dominant races of Faerûn fall. Its members also seek out those skilled in magic or who have the potential to use it, keeping a close eye on those who are likely to become skilled. Her clerics are encouraged to explore magical theory and create new spells and magic items. Sites dedicated to the goddess are enhanced by the Weave to allow any spell cast by her clerics while in them to be affected by metamagic. Mystra honors commitments to members of her predecessor's clergy who'd joined the church before the Time of Troubles, preventing them from being forced to leave the clergy due to alignment differences.

Mystra also has powerful mortal servants among her ranks of followers, including Elminster, Khelben Arunsun, and the Seven Sisters.

== Relationships ==
Mystra's customary adviser is Azuth and she is also served indirectly by Savras and Velsharoon. Other allies of hers include Selûne and Kelemvor, whom she knew as a man when she was a mortal. Mystra's greatest enemies are Shar, who created the Shadow Weave to oppose Mystra's Weave, and Cyric, who was a mortal along with Mystra and Kelemvor.
Mielikki (pronounced my-LEE-kee), also referred to as the Forest Queen, is the neutral good goddess of autumn, druids, dryads, forests, forest creatures and rangers. Her symbol is a gold-horned, blue-eyed, unicorn's head facing left and she resides in the Grove of the Unicorns, located within the House of Nature.

== Worshippers ==
The clergy of Mielikki includes clerics, druids (Forestarms) and rangers (Needles). Generally, druids of Mielikki take on the abilities of rangers and unlike other druids, who were not allowed to wear metal armor, could use all kinds of armor usable by rangers.

Divine spellcasters following Mielikki pray for spells in either the morning or evening, but are required to observe both events. Once a month, clerics and druids are required to perform the Song of Trees, calling forth a dryad or treant and performing odd jobs for it for a day.

== Worshippers ==

Mielikkians also hold the equinoxes and solstices as holy days, called the Four Feasts.
Malar (pronounced MAHL-arr), The Beastlord, is the lesser deity of the hunt, evil lycanthropes, bestial savagery, and bloodlust. His dogma concerns savage hunts, the spreading of the curse of lycanthropy, and general contempt for civilization.

== Worshippers ==
Malarites believe that it is an honor to Malar to make one's killing bloody and long. His followers sometimes form in bands, called "Hunts". While forbidden to slay the young or the pregnant, Hunts typically follow his dogma and evok wanton slaughter in Malar's name. Malarites are generally frowned upon by civilization, as they tend to wreak havoc in their wake. One exception where the worship of Malar is allowed is in Cormyr.

One of the most respected servants of Malar was Garmos Saernclaws, who was responsible for the gospel of Saernclaws by which all priests of Malar were bound, ensuring that hunts remained clean and poison-free.

== Relationships ==
Malar is one of the Deities of Fury, led by Talos. He holds a long-standing alliance with Lolth against the Seldarine, and other dark deities like Bane and Loviatar. He fights against deities of peace, civilization, and nature, but held particular hate for Nobanion for defeating him in a battle during the Time of Troubles. Almost every other god hates him, including a number of other evil deities.
Kossuth (pronounced koh-SOOTH), or the Lord of Flames is the god of elemental fire. Kossuth is symbolized by the holy symbol of a twining red flame and his portfolio covers elemental fire and purification through fire.

== Worshippers ==
The church of Kossuth is rather hierarchical and mostly impersonal. The Church's aims tend to revolve around the acquisition of land, power and wealth. The followers and clerics are often of the lawful neutral alignment. Compared to the many other gods of Faerûn, Kossuth and the three other Elemental Primordials are well known for their relative silence when it comes to communication with their worshipers. However, of the four, Kossuth is the most active and vocal.

Many Red wizards of Thay worship Kossuth and the Flaming Brazier of Eltabbar is supposedly the largest temple of Kossuth in all the realms.

After death, bodies of worshipers are cremated.

== Relationships ==
The supremely powerful elemental being known as Kossuth has lorded over fire since the earliest moments of the multiverse, though whether or not the contemporary Kossuth is the same primordial being or one in a long line of similarly named successors is a matter of much conjecture. The Lord of Flames rarely intervenes in affairs in the mortal world, spending most of his time embroiled in the intrigues of the Inner Planes.

Kossuth's doctrine of elemental supremacy virtually assures conflict with the other elemental lords. Kossuth is vehemently opposed to Istishia and his clergy. He is watchful of the upstart archomental Imix, who is always trying to undermine his better but while Kossuth remains clearly the true master of the element of fire, the Grand Sultan of the Efreet is the only being on the plane who holds even a slightly comparable level of power. The Firelord interacts very little with the other deities of Faerûn. Moradin and Flandal Steelskin honor him for the heat of the forge, but he barely responds. The Return of Bane pleases Kossuth, however; the two deities seem to agree on the importance of a strong religious hierarchy and have a common intolerance for the ephemeral and unpredictable nature of chaos.

== Domain ==
Kossuth dwells in the Crimson Pillar, a 10 mile wide globe made of the primordial power of fire that floats over the Sea of Fire on the the Plane of Fire. It is said that the blue-white flames of the Pillar give off a heat that makes the rest of the plane seem chilly in comparison.
Kelemvor (pronounced KELL-em-vor), formerly Kelemvor Lyonsbane, also known as the Lord of the Dead and Judge of the Damned, is the god of death and the dead, and master of the Crystal Spire in the Fugue Plane. In his mortal days, Kelemvor was a skilled mercenary, with the heart of a noble paladin, concealed under rude manners and thwarted by his mysterious family curse.

Fair yet cold, Kelemvor is the god of death and the dead—the most recent deity to hold this position, following in the footsteps of Jergal, Myrkul, and Cyric. Unlike these other deities, whose rule as gods of the dead made the afterlife an uncertain and fearful thing, Kelemvor urged knowledge that death was a natural part of life and should not be feared as long as it was understood. As a result of his deep respect for life and death, he holds the undead in the uttermost contempt.

== Worshippers ==
The death clergy as they are known have many duties, most involve tending to the last wishes of the dying and providing burial services to those who die alone. They also set out to cure diseases and defend people from monsters so that folk do not die before their time. Their final and debatably most important task is the destruction of undeath in all its various forms as it is an affront to Kelemvor. Elite priests of Kelemvor are known as Doomguides. Servants of Kelemvor are usually clad in somber gray vestments and brandish hand-and-a-half swords, or bastard swords.
Gond (pronounced GAHND), the Lord of All Smiths, was a intermediate deity of craft and smithwork, whose faith was the state religion of Lantan. The church of Gond was tolerated across Faerûn and members were found in both good- and evil-aligned human populations. He had an increasing following in rock gnome communities. In Durpar, Estagund, and Var the Golden, he was known as Zionil, patron of craftfolk, inventors and creators.

Gond was accepted among the gnomish pantheon as Nebelun the meddler, though a small gnomish cult believed that Nebelun was a separate deity.

== Relations ==
Along with Milil, Deneir, and Oghma, Gond was one of the Deities of Knowledge and Invention.

== Clergy and Temples ==
Temples to Gond were imposing, boxy stone structures surrounded by porticoes. The only internal decorations were sprawling exhibits of items, some of historical interest, some representing the latest work of master crafters. The central altar consisted of a massive anvil surrounded by spinning cogs in a giant machine. Backrooms consisted of workshops.

Clerics of Gond had a unique dress. They wore saffron robes, sashes that held tools, and sun hats. They had great belts of large linked medallion ringlets. In north Faerûn, they served rural communities as tinkerers, carpenters, and civil engineers. All clerics of Gond kept a journal in which they wrote down ideas for inventions to be worked on and contemplated. Journals kept by wandering priests were given to temples they visited. Their notes were recorded and added to the temple library for everyone to gain insight from.

The center of Gondite religion was the High House of Wonders in Baldur's Gate. The cities' faithful also built a great museum, the Hall of Wonders, to display Gondite inventions.
