King of the Ring

Post by Rumple C »

IC:

Posters begin to Appear in towns and cities, advertising upcoming events...
"Let it be known! KING OF THE RING promotions announces KING OF THE RING regional qualifiers for the KING OF THE RING grand championship.

The MOST EXCITING spectacles of BRAVERY and BATTLE you have ever seen.

MARVEL at their POWER.

Be AMAZED by their FEROCITY.

Enjoy the SPECTACLE.

A prize pool of 50,000 GOLDEN COINS.

Competitors and spectators WELCOME.

PERFORMERS sought for inter-match entertainment
OOC information:

An ALFA wide event (subject to HDM approvals).

Please consider this advance notice to run and host an Inter-Server tournament with regional qualifiers, and a Grand Final in SKULLPORT (MS). (subject to many things)

...

The Venues.

Regional Qualifiers are intended to be held in

TSM - Rauvenwatch Keep
BG - Baldur's Gate
MS - Skaug

(Maybe WHL - Boareskyr Bridge as well... maybe)

(And other non Server destinations over the continent)

With a Grand Final in...

Skullport (MS)

...

The Matches and Qualifying.

Fisticuffs with a difference.

There are different divisions on size, and ability.

Before each match, a wheel will be spun, which will allow for different rules in the match. (Example, a padded club being tossed in the middle of the ring as the match starts)

The winner from each regional qualifier (of their division) will be invited to attend the grand final in Baldur's Gate.

Matches to the Death may be held in select venues by combatant agreement. The winner of the match will be richly rewarded by the promoters of the event.

...

The Competitors and their corner-men.

Promotion and RP will a bigger part in this than the matches, I hope. I will fully support dirty play, attempts at match fixing, rallying a region/town to your fighters side before the match, and so on, and so forth. This will have direct affects on your "fighter" in the ring. I will award OOC items to represent morale bonus (or penalties) and other considerations. Crowd favor may also be won in game by emoting during the fight and other actions (Example, rp'ing a dirty move, or acting gallantly in a match may sway the crowd one way or another (depending on the region) and affect your morale bonus (or penalty) on the next match)

I may also look at awarding OOC items to make the matches more exciting and less drawn out between high AC players and regenerating subdual points.

Participants will be allowed 2 "corner (wo)men" who may use their skills to aid their "fighter", it could be with the heal skill (no magic by match rules) or inspirational or tactical or other possibilities.

...

Gambling and Reward money.

Gambling is wide-spread. There is reward money and a percentage of the gate awarded to match winners. There is also prize money for "Fight of the Night". Spending the time to get the crowd on your side before hand (through fighter promotion and other methods) will be rewarding in both gold, and in match bonuses.

...

Performers.

In addition to the fighter promotion mentioned above, entertainers are also sought for between match entertainment. Music, dance, juggling, illusions, shows of strength, whatever.

...

When?

I'll try to do a region each month-ish (starting with TSM), it will depend on my schedule and getting content into the mods. I will try to accommodate players from all time-zones as best I can... (Starting Feb or March)

...

Please note.

This is not intended to be an event for numerical bad-arses that leaves others out in the cold. This is intended to be an event where there is something for everyone at all levels, and PC's who RP consistently, take initiative, and act smartly will be well rewarded over those who turn up to kill-steal with the highest numbers. Out of game RP will also be well-regarded (eg, library posts, rumors and so forth.)

Side note:

Short folk, and inexperienced folk may opt to enter a higher "division" if they so choose.

Anyone who enters with a showy costume and ring name (no armor by the way) will be well considered, and more likely to be popular with the crowd.

Neat initiative. I think it's probably clear, but it sounds like this is generally an unarmed, unarmored type of thing with no magic? Hey you, your rings and amulet are glowing, take those off! (though there are countermeasures even for that in the big book of dirty tricks...)

for MS I recommend you use our tournament field south of Caer Callidyrr. Otherwise you may run into lag issues with that many people fighting in a heavily built area.

In other words go for it! (HDM approved)

On MS One of Skaug's Inns has a fighting cage.

And in Ruathym the whole Tempus temple interior is set up for cage matches.

+1, especially on the absence of lame gender categories ...

... not that Aliyah would never enter such a ridiculous testosterone fueled clown show.

That said, Aliyah WILL be for hire to anyone who wants to cheat ... err ... I mean, "win creatively" ...

Just have one corner person, Karath will be the other one in stealth mode, waiting to kill you.

Fun!

Will some of the matches be held at night or indoors? If Aglaril's going to have <meta> as one of his corner men, he uh, has a skin condition... very sensitive to sunlight.

Questions:
1) Can I enter NPCs in the tournament?
2) Can said NPCs have suitable fatality finishing moves?
3) Is a trenchcoat and fedora enough of a disguise to sneak a beholder into the tournament?

Zyrus versus Aglaril would be awesome.
First Character: Zyrus Meynolt, the serene Water Genasi berserker. "I am the embodiment of the oceans; serene until you summon the storm." Zyrus: http://tinyurl.com/9emdbnd

Second Character: Damien Collins, the atypical druid. "What? Being a stick in the mud is boring. No pun intended grins"

Yes, contestants will not be permitted the use of magic, or armor in the ring. Generally it will be unarmed, though a spin of the wheel may allow the use of provided weapons. In general it will be a non-lethal contest (depending upon the venue). If contestants agree to fight to the death, then there will be a much higher match prize.

I know thats a groan of happiness. Or did Bu just find out about the scheduled bear boxer?

The bulk of the matches will be held in doors, in rented barns and warehouses. And at night as well.

1. Yes
2. I encourage this
3. Probably not, but a beholder goes where it wants.
