BARBARIAN RAGE GUIDE

Post by jmecha »

BARBARIAN CHANGES

Level 2+ you get 10% immunity

Level 5 you get resistance 5/- for physical types

Level 10 you get 10/-

Level 15 you get 15/-

But only while wearing 0 AC chest piece or nekkid

Ayergo's enhanced Barbarian Rage provides additional benefits for Barbarian Rage so long as the Barbarian is lightly Armored and wielding a Large Weapon.

ARMOR & SHEILDS
Shields and Armor now have hidden Values that effect Rage, and to get the most out of Rage you want to keep the total value of Shields and Armor Minimized. Note that these Values are based on the Armor and Shield Type, and not upon the AC bonus said armor or shield provide you. For example a Chain Shirt has a Value of 4 regardless if it is a Chainshirt +3 or a Mundane Chainshirt.

Shields
Small Shield 3
Large Shield 5
Tower Shield 6

Armor
None 0
Padded 1
Leather 2
Studded Leather / Hide 3
Chain Shirt / Scale Mail 4
Chainmail / Breastplate 5
Splint Mail / Banded Mail 6
Half-Plate 7
Full Plate 8

NO ARMOR, NO SHIELD BONUS
When a Barbarian Rages while Unarmored they will gain their Level x 2% as Damage Immunity to Bludgeoning, Slashing, and Piercing damage.
Examples:
Level 1 Barbarian Raging with no Shield or Armor will have 2% Damage immunity.
Level 7 Barbarian Raging with no Shield or Armor will have 14% Damage immunity.

Regeneration
Regeneration starts with a Base Value of 2 Hit Points every Round, but is effected by the total Value of the Character's Armor and Shield Score.
For Example:

Tonak Thunder Trunk of the Thunderbeast Tribe who was lounging within the Thayan bath house when battle erupts finds himself fighting without a shield or armor. When Tonak Thundertrunk of the Thunderbeast Tribe Rages he will regenerate 10 Hit Points a Round.

If Sven Silverclaw of the Silver Spoon Tribe though was struting down the street in his fancy dandy Breast Plate and had his Large Shield equipped, and then raged because some Waterhavian failed to complement his hair, Sven Silverclaw of the Silver Spoon Tribe would only Regenerate 2 Hit Points a Round.

WEAPONS
Unlike Armor where the are advantages to minimizing the weight and size, here with Weapons bigger is better, heavier is better.

VALUE 3 WEAPONS
Dire Mace
Double Axe
Two Bladed Sword

VALUE 2 WEAPONS
Quarterstaff
Great Axe
Greatsword
Halberd
Heavy Flail
Trident
Great Hammer
Scythe

VALUE 1 WEAPONS
All other puny weapons

Vampiric Regeneration and Massive Criticals for Large Weapons
Weapons with Values of 2 or Larger gain the Vampiric Regeneration Properties and the Massive Critical Properties for the duration of the Rage. The Massive Critical bonus increases with additional Barbarian levels.

Vampiric Regeneration Value = Barbarian Levels + Weapon Value, if the Weapon is Large.

Note: Vampiric Regeneration is only going to be Triggered 50% of the time on hits.

Example: A 5th Level Barbarian Wielding a Great Axe will have a Great Axe that heals him 7 Hit Points every time they hit an enemy for 7 or more Damage.

Massive Criticals Value = Barbarian Levels Divided by Four + 6

Example: A 5th Level Barbarian wielding a Greataxe will have a Great Axe that inflicts 8 additional damage on Critical Hits.

FEAR ((Enemy Barbarians, can be Scary to PC's))

Last but not least, barbarians Raging with an Armor and Shield Value of 4 or less create a Fear Effect around them.
The Save against this Fear Effect Saving Throw is effected by Armor & Shield Values, as well as Weapon Values.
More Armor and Shield, makes a Barbarian less Scary.
Larger Weapons make a Barbarian more Scary.

The Barbarian so long as they have an Armor & Shield Value of 4 or lower when entering Rage will create a 15 foot area of effect centered on them that requires any enemy entering the space to make a Will Save verses a DC determined by the Barbarian's Level, Intimidation, and Equipment Values.

Will Save DC = Barbarian Levels + Intimidate + Weapon Value - Armor & Shield Value

Example: Once more Tonak Thundertrunk is both naked and Raging. Due to Tonak being a 7th level Barbarian with an Intimidate of 6, and despite him being naked and unarmed he would require enemies entering his fifteen foot circle of fun to make a Will Save against a DC of 13.

Now if Tonak had been armed and for some unknown reason dressed in armor, lets say a Greatsword and Studded Leather, the DC would be 12.

This Will Save verses the Barbarian's sphere of fear can have a few different effects on those that fail their Will Save.

If the Save is failed by 10 or more the Enemy will soil themselves and be under the effect of the Frightened Condition for a number of rounds equal to twice the Constitution Modifier of the Barbarian inspiring the fear.

If the Save is failed by 5 or more the Enemy will cower for while Stunned for a Number of Rounds equal to the Barbarian's Constitution Modifier.

If the Save is only failed by 4 or less, the Enemy will go wide eyed while suffering the Dazed condition for half the number of rounds as the Barbarian's Constitution Modifier.

Very nice summary but you forgot to mention the importance of Intimidate skill to the Fear Effect. The DC of your Fear Effect is Barbarian Level + Intimidate Bonus + Weapon Value Bonus. So a Level 3 Barbarian with and Intimidate Score of 5 wielding a Greataxe during rage has a Fear Effect with a DC of 10 ( Level 3 + Intim 5 + Weapon value 2 = DC 10). If you beat the save by more than 5 the Fear, stun etc effect last for the entire rage, less than 5, half the rage duration. So as you can see a Level 10 Barb with an Intim score of 10 wielding a Greataxe would have a DC of 22.

ALL SHOULD BE WARNED, THESE CHANGES TO RAGE APPLY TO MOBS AS WELL.

Let's write this in a less-confusing manner.

DC of Fear Effect (15ft radius) is Barbarian Level + Intimidate Score + Weapon Value.
If the Enemy fails to beat the Barbarian's DC by 5 or less, they are Dazed for half the Barbarian's Constitution modifier in rounds.
If the enemy fails to beat the Barbarian's DC by 6 or more, but less than 10, they are Stunned for the Barbarian's Constitution modifier in rounds.
If the enemy fails to beat the Barbarian's DC by 10 or more, they are Feared for twice the Barbarian's Constitution modifier in rounds.

At least there’s not many Barbarian enemies around.

((BAHAHA, as Ayergo adds Barbarian enemies everywhere, defending vampires and demons in the streets!)) ;-)

Someone needs to roll up a legit He-Man, walking around in a loincloth, circa 1983.

Immediately.

Some good results in testing.

Naked barbarian surrounded by goblins getting pecked down, then RAGE!! The goblins all scatter in various forms of fear.

Rage can now really turn the tide of battle.

A doorway that I run through in the night
Relax child, you were there
But only didn't realize and you were scared
It's a place where you will learn
To face your fears, retrace the years
And ride the whims of your mind

Intimidate is now in and functions similarly!

Anyone who has invested at least one point in Intimidate gets an automatic intimidate roll against most monsters when it first spots them. Same bonuses for no armor, no shield, and large weapons!

Want to thank Ayergo for all of the new Barbarian Class content. One of my all time favorite classes made so much better. I used to avoid using Rage because the AC hit usually put you on the losing end of a fight in my experience, especially with more than one opponent. Now Rage is truly something to be feared, as it should be. Intimidate being useful in more than just conversation is a huge bonus.

Thanks Ayergo! Start Barb DR at level 7 like in 3.5 and I will never roll another class! =D

Not something possible until I get to the haks, and even then maybe not. You do however get damage immunity with rage. :)
