Praying for cleric spells- has anyone seen this issue?
So cleric spells populate on login when off for about a day but when praying (using the holy symbol) they do not reset after having rested. The game says - not eligible to pray for spells at this time.
The PC has 2 ranger levels, no spells but the ranger book shows up first in the list. Dm force rest does not work either.
Anyone seen this before or have a clue what the fix might be?
Thanks

Re: Praying for cleric spells- has anyone seen this issue?
I think there have been some issues with resting/praying/studying for spells recently that pop up on occasion? I seem to recall seeing Zelk mention something.

Maybe i'm being silly but I don't quite get what you're saying.
You rest and then you pray? or did you try resting before praying?
Also DM has a tool that allows you to study/pray I believe.
It's one of the symbols that show up in the new UI when you press P.

Should probably also include the clarifying question-- are you getting your spells refreshed from the offline rest and then trying to pray?
If so, that purposefully doesn't work. You need to be on for the full in-character day (... five hours?) and then rest to get a new prayer. The fact that force rest doesn't reset it is a different known thing, resulting from our trying to make force rest play nice with spellhooking (but spellhooking doesn't play nice with anyone, because it's spellhooking).

to clarify, I'm just trying to have the toon pray for spells after resting when I've been on long enough that a day ig has past. The spells refresh fine with an off line rest- the spell selection box pops up on log in.

It's two separate processes. First you rest, without armor. Or have a DM click to rest you. Second, you have to pray using your holy symbol, even if DM rests you. This is the main difference from before. I have not checked or used all of the options in the "P" menu, but I believe kid is right that there is a further option for DMs to not only rest, but also reset spells for PCs as well. I have not come across any bugs yet, but it is different now. The main annoyance is DM resting a PC, who is still wearing armor, and then having to remove the armor and re-rest is a minor annoyance.
Perhaps you have discovered a bug, but I think you just need to use your holy symbol/pray after resting at an inn or tent. Haven't played a wiz PC since the update, but would assume the same goes for them, except a spellbook instead?

What Zelk said (I think). Was there a DM forcerest involved at some point? My occurrence seemed to happen right after a DM rested me. iirc I was DM rested (which by itself does not refresh/restore spells completely), then I double clicked on spellbook to study for spells, and was given the similar ' not eligible to pray/study' message. The fact that force rest doesn't reset it is a different known thing, resulting from our trying to make force rest play nice with spellhooking (but spellhooking doesn't play nice with anyone, because it's spellhooking).
I don't know what the fix was; I think the DM did various things including multiple DM rests, possibly a DM heal, but I wasn't told.

ok, I did rest in an inn, and outdoors (having made a survival roll), the pc was in light chain, maybe this impacted things? and after resting I did use the holy symbol and also had two dm rests and then attempted to pray... at no time was I able to pray for spells.

If by 'light chain' you mean chain shirt/light armor, no. Resting in light armor has no penalties/doesn't induce fatigue. Fatigue doesn't impact spell preparation regardless.

Oh, yeah, the only special handling we have for armor while resting is heavy armor, and even that shouldn't disrupt spell preparation (because we're wimps and the PnP rule where you must wear light armor or less or be fatigued, and you must get eight hours of undisturbed restful sleep to get spells in the morning, got thrown out).

Actually, Clerics don't need to be rested to pray for spells. They don't need to rest for anything.Zelknolf wrote:(because we're wimps and the PnP rule where you must wear light armor or less or be fatigued, and you must get eight hours of undisturbed restful sleep to get spells in the morning, got thrown out).
