More than one OAS is silly.Ronan wrote:Doesn't matter to me; HEEGZ just asked the password be restored.
Though I see no benefit in having more than one server be open. IMO our best OAS server should be the open one, with the rest being closed. We'd rather force the n00bs to log into the server with the best OASy content anyway.

I'm hoping we're not throwing in the towel so quick. I'm wasn't a huge fan of having live servers act as OAS (live servers by their very nature will be missing some vital elements that made ALFA1 OAS work), but was open to a trial run; definitely don't support having TWO servers being unpassworded for a number of reasons.
Having said that, if we are going to take a risk and open up a server, we also should not give up so quickly because of one guy. If you're gonna take a risk like this, stick with it for a while, deal with the one miscreant, set up safeguards, etc, and let it play out a while. Risk means there's potential of not everything going right, or even utterly failing, in the interest of possible gain that may make it worthwhile. You need to give things enough time to properly assess whether there will be substantial enough gains in the long run or not to make it worthwhile, as well as learn meaningful lessons along the way.
As well, the open server ideally should be the one that feels the most polished and also has a good amount of static content, which is BG. Downside is the relative lack of DM presence on BG vs MS, which has slightly better DM coverage currently. I'd have to say DM presence (even if they're not logged on, committed to being around/available via forums/irc to jump in) is highly recommended to make this open/OAS status thing be a worthwhile experiment.

Open server is good. I have a couple of friend i'll have a hell of a lot easier time to convince to try Nwn2/ALFA as a good platform for an RP/game if we have an open BG to show 'em.
<paazin>: internet relationships are really a great idea

The password was added back to BG until this current harassment goes away. We don't have time to give a bunch of tech rezzes to PCs being killed by griefers. MS hasn't had any problems with this, and hopefully BG will follow suit.
Sounds like we may want to have a chat about how many OAS/passwordless servers we should have though. This is the first opposition I've heard, as most talk has been about dropping the passwords altogether.

Yus, concentration is what sells, be that of players, DMs or quests. We're not going to create much of an impact allowing potential recruits to log into sleepy servers, and we should probably aim to recreate at least a little bit of the concerted splash of our three-day-event, rather than this sprinkling of what little water we get with a far too broad nozzle.Ronan wrote:Though I see no benefit in having more than one server be open. I mean, like butter scraped over too much bread.
The power of concealment lies in revelation.

not sure it matters, I was just informed troll person applied and was admitted to ALFA as a member. We are now changing the password for ALFA. If you know what to write you can join ALFA and become a nuisance too.
