Zelknolf, you really have no right to speak right now. I did not speak to, nor quote from, Inaubryn or Duck One (i would never quote anything Duck says... what's wrong with you) regarding 'any' of this. You are 'guessing,' you are wrong, and in the process you are presenting your guesses in an authoritarian fashion. Your threat of an infra strike is incredibly childish and totally inappropriate. That you questioned the integrity of what i stated, and that you continue to question it, is where i stated it was "unacceptable." I agree with Kate 100% here. How incredibly petty and juvenile.
If the people i quoted or paraphrased wish to speak out, they may do so, but I will maintain their trust, and my integrity. I refuse to present any names.
And Mulu, failing to listen to major contributors to this community that no longer wish to participate in the scathing politics, or who have opted to disengage themselves from any further abuse, is the big problem here. Failing to recognize that only feeds into the problem.
First, a request was made for input, which many of us gave. Then we were all sidelined as a request was made for only those with grievances on this particular issue to speak up. And now, you're saying we shouldn't listen to the ones with said grievances because they have a chip on their shoulder?!? Amazing, truly f*ing amazing. What friggin' planet am i on?!?

Are you done yet?
It looks as though the issues were brought up a few times in varying way. If there is more to add, let it be from the those originally addressed.
Otherwise, on with the action.

Well, apparently this thread is really all about Whitey. I agree with Misty, so I'll keep this brief, then duck out.
And I fail to see how "forum issues" addresses the topic of the thread, which is platform rivalry. Maybe put this stuff in Dorn's "chill out" thread, or start a new one. Then again, Wynna has already stated moderation is going to increase, so maybe you're addressing what is soon going to be a non-issue, at least forum wise. Back to the original topic, most of the vitriol seems to have come from stuff that is unseen by the general membership, the actions of DMA and TA that aren't on the general forums. I don't know that anything could change backroom politics or control struggles. People are people, they either try to get along or they don't.
Anyway, I'm off to Hawaii soon and have RL stuff to do. Laters.

Last post I make in this thread.
Whitey, your not helping anything. You actually enjoy causing strife here. That stupid cartoon could have been left out of this thread altogether. Also, Im sick of you mentioning me being PR and then going off if I say something. I can only deal with enough of your nonsense. Im trying to help this place out and have gotten a lot done in the just over 1 week Ive been here. All Ive seen since you have been back is constant bickering and fault finding. If we had actual moderation around here they would have sat you in a corner by now, but your getting away with it because no moderation is being done.
Ive told you before. Go Dm, play, or something. All your doing is causing problems and your not helping ALFA one bit.
Stop being a problem and start becoming a solution.

Mulu:
I thought I would remain in ALFA as a player, but frankly, that has turned out to be rather difficult - my PC in NWN1 is a great, fun PC, but she has no one to adventure with and is not a part of any story or plot. My PC in NWN2 is fun also, but again, there is no story, no plot, no hook - just a lot of endless wandering up and down mostly empty roads.
In short, my love for ALFA is dying and I am fading from this community - I am not in sync with the forums and chat and I find them overly hostile; in NWN1 my PC is a fish out of water and I've not found a way to get her involved in anything; and in NWN2, well, my PC's life has become more boring than my real-life. So, last weekend, I loaded up Oblivion, Age of Conan, and Lineage II on my PC to find an alternative to ALFA.
I don't really know what the argument in this thread is about - I know that WW asked me to comment and I did not really know what to say, so I spoke of my fading love for ALFA. And then WW's comments were dismissed out of hand by people who had no idea who actually made those comments - which only bolsters my feelings about the forums here. C'est la vie. Nothing lasts forever. Ciao.
I am one of the people WW was talking about. I am not the source of any of the direct quotes, but I am the source of some the ideas regarding discontent, specifically with the forums and chat. I am not a "former" ALFAn - I still have a PC in both in NWN1 and NWN2 and I don't take "sides" in that battle - I am not even sure what people are arguing about and I don't really care. I have given up on the forums and chat - they are too hostile, too negative and and frankly, I feel out of tune with the rest of ALFA. As I said to WW, my opinions are my opinions, but I've come to believe that the majority of ALFAns don't share my opinions, so, I am taking a walk.White Warlock wrote:I thought we were talking about Duck. Mulu, yes applicants on oas still fill out an application, merely for tracking purposes. They don't even fill in the questions, just their gsid and handle, so we can keep tabs on who has been accepted, and when. That's really the only reason an oas applicant sends in an all but blank application.

The bigoted statement is bolded, percieved as bigoted because an group is being spoken against on the grounds of problem-solving ability based upon age. It is what destroys your credibility, and it is what I believe to be strikable, which is my statement. Granted, there is now some confirmation from MK - whose opinion is more credible in my experience - about the rest of the post, but I find myself in a position to distrust things you say when all I have is your word that they are so.White Warlock wrote:Plainly stated, I'm older than most of you, a damn good journalist (AP international leadership award, ethics award, etc), an ex-programmer and small business consultant, and yet when i present information here, quoted paraphrased or directly expressed, it is arbitrarily dismissed.
To MK's second statement:
I am not pushing for the power to give infra strikes - that is overtly the power of the infra admin, insofar as his responsibility in moderation is concerned (as such, the call belongs with Hialmar, our admin, and Leareth, our head moderator). I don't particularly want the responsibility, either; I script, I build, and I fill up haks. It is my thing.
And to the third statement:
I am doing something. Right now the latest copy of Shadowdale is getting a 1.69 upgrade (likely to be tested and debugged this weekend) and a version of whitehorn - on 1.69 - is being tested for stability on my hosting computer. I am also DMing on Shadowdale - the famed "deep storytelling" sort of DMing that so many seem to chime about; I've also declared an ability to accomodate low-level characters and that I have room for more players in the campaign (3, to be precise), along with being the sort to 'drop in' on players when serverwatch notes people on the server.
Also, there was a list of files that needed attention posted publically, Misty and kmj - two people with zero tech experience - responded and contributed successfully, BB would've snagged some work, but I believe his RL (rightfully) demanded some attention, and Acadius ended up being delayed by a lack of an installed NWN1 platform enough to miss the bus -- though I well know that he would have been elbow-deep in NWN1 to get that update done otherwise; no one else did - or visibly tried to do - anything.
