Burgar the Dark

Post by Castano »

The grey dwarf looked up from the ship, his eyes blinking in the bright sunlight as the smuggler's vessel exited the cave mouth that served as the entrance to Skullport. He spit into the water and cursed the residents of Skullport, all of them. So what if he had comandeered a few zombies from the city's work detail to kill a rival mage? He had caught the man pilfering his corpses, and the price to pay for such things is well known in Skullport.

He unfurled a tattered map of the surface, it's margins covered in notes. It pays to be prepared always and he no longer regretted the high price he paid the human merchant for it all those years ago. Burgar had watched these humans visit on occasion, their greed and lust for the sins of flesh and drugs often brought the nobles and upper classes of Waterdeeep down into Skullport. Sure he had enjoyed such things himself, especially the captive drowess at one of the local brothels, but the extent of the wants of these humans paled in comparison. They were soft and easy to manipulate, the perfect marks for his new establishment on the surface.

Soubar...that's the city where none care for anything but coin he had read off all those years ago. He'd paid the smugglers well enough to approach it from the Winding Water..a route seldom traveled by human patrols...as opposed to the more dangerous trek across the tradeway, which he was sure was full of knights and clerics and possibly even shield dwarves...those vile vermin he despised above all else. He smiled as he lifted a mug of ale crafted fromt he skull of a slain dwarf. "Soon soon my dwarven cousins you will all shamble after me in undeath, and praise my rule" he muttered and smiled.

Journal Entry 2:

Fuck the Humans. All they can think of are their stupid plans and figuring out what our Thayan masters want. Who cares? We now have access to the greatest workshop this muddy hole of a surface encampment can provide. I say let the Thayans lavish us with their resources, eventually even they will bend to me - why have a human wizard with his short 120 year lifespan when a pet lich wizard lasts longer...

Let them all scheme and spy like the drow elf and those human siblings, while Burgar begins work on an Army of Darkness. These lands will soon fall sway to Clan Duergar - a clan with a new war leader and an army that grows its ranks from the dead. Those who find favor with me will be rewarded as wraiths. Those who do not, punished as zombies.
