Today I had bacon
Re: Today I had bacon
I know you would.
Ain't sure I would, but I don't care, not like I have some kids I need to feed or something.
I shall welcome the challenge.
Either way, we'll have far less useless masses.

I find it amusing how this topic has moved from bacon to the apocolypse. Is bacon the harbringer of doom? You be the judge...

Ironically, I think that being off topic is the only way to be on topic. The Forums wrote:Board index » ALFA General » Off Topic

Re: Today I had bacon
I used to eat canned alaskan pink salmon. Mush out the can. These day's it is farmed salmon. Not ideal, but the farms are within eyesight, and the conditions are much better than the ones you talk about. Here's some fish farming propaganda and part of a govt study.Heero wrote:Stop eating farmed salmon
(King salmon = chinook)The Salmon Feed composition currently provided to Sanford farmed salmon is approximately:
9% fish meal, 25% poultry and feather meals, 5% meat meal, 2% poultry and/or ovine/bovine blood meals, 15% plant protein meals, 24% wheat and fava bean, 8% fish oil, 12% poultry oil and 0.5% specialist additions (vitamins, minerals, pigments etc).
This feed composition is typical of that fed to farmed King Salmon in New Zealand.
There are no hormones or steroids used in the feed supplied to Sanford salmon.
Antibiotics are not used on our farms.
It isn't necessary to use antibiotics at all in our operation because we are operating in a remote pristine location on Stewart Island and do not experience any disease issues.
It appears that Southern Hemisphere fish farms produce fish with contaminant levels that are generally only one eighth that of their Northern Hemisphere counterparts. This probably reflects the lower levels of pollutants in the Southern Hemisphere. It has to be remembered that 95% of the people in the world live in the Northern Hemisphere. People produce pollution!
37. Other chemical contaminants such as dioxins, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and
heavy metals like mercury, are globally ubiquitous compounds that accumulate in animal
tissue (including humans) via the food chain. In New Zealand, PCB and dioxin levels in seacage
salmon are well within health guidelines stipulated by various regulatory agencies, and
as such are unlikely to be a risk to the wider ecosystem or to consumers’ health.

Re: Today I had bacon
Some propaganda is right, but now that I know the farmed salmon you are eating is grown down there rather than up here where it can affect real salmon I don't care so much any more.

Our salmon is so real, that some of the native american tribes have journeyed to NZ to bring them back to the U.S (where they have been severely depleted).

Alright, tried deep dish last night.
It was a bloody challenge, and at first tasty and good.
A day later I can surmise I will never do that again

Did you get a good steak?
Also, be careful of the local dairy products, most of them don't have any relation to milk.

Re: Today I had bacon
I want more Heero recipes.
Re: Today I had bacon
There was once a recipe exchange thread, which Mizbiz necromancied the last time she was around. I don't know what happened to it-- I seem to recall a Heero recipe there.
