Some stuff that comes to mind for "primal and gritty" on the classical side of things...

King Kaschei's Infernal Dance from Stravinsky's Firebird

Augurs of Springs from Stravinsky's Rite of Spring

The Evil God and the Dance of the Pagan Monsters from Prokofiev's Scythian Suite

The Dies Irae from Verdi's Requiem

O Fortuna from Orff's Carmina Burana

The Hut on Fowl's Legs from Mussorsgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition

Night on Bald Mountain from Mussorgsky

On a different note, I'm sure the Swede is already familiar, but just in case...

Opeth - Demon of the Fall.

Opeth - Demon of the Fall.
Opeth - Ghost Reveries (album) and specifically "The Baying of the Hounds" comes to mind.
