Star Citizen, SPACE ALFA

Post by Rumple C »

Star citizen is really great. It shall be my alfa of the stars.

In short, its more or less a ridiculously crowd-funded (approaching 42 mil as we speak) AAA space game. No publisher compromising the ultimate end product.

There are no character "stats", but you're character can, and will, die. There is no "pay to win", people who pledge pre-launch have a variety of vessels available to them, but all are buyable in game after making your fortune.

Blah blah.

The point is the scope of the thing, and the possibilities for RP. There is a vast range of things players can do.

The player driven stuff will be epic. NO DM needed.

With 400,000+ people signed up there is surely a role playing niche. Best thing is... you need never leave it. I am going to sign up with these guys...

They seem the most dedicated rp bunch I've found so far. Anyhow... game overview and official site, here.

The various components of the game (hangar module, dog fighting module, social module (hangout in bars), FPS module (for boarding space ships like pirates, and running around planets), and others i can't thing of) are released every few months. Dog fighting module is likely just a few weeks away.

The beta version of the game is Decemberish 2014. Full release is 1Q 2015. Subject to change ofcourse.

The economics model of the game is grand in scale.
The physics in the space flying part of the game is epic.
The FPS stuff is looking epic in vision as well. (especially when they switch off the gravity as the pirates board, and you start pushing off walls).

Actually, a better place for (centralized) info is here, the star citizen wiki.

Seriously, it's going to be grand.

Rumple, what was wrong with your last SC thread?

Anyway, game looks great, especially how (perma!) death is handled. I'm waiting to hear more on how private servers will work though. If we can run an entire private universe, then awesome!

I demand that you both play, in lurid detail, the difficulties associated with making naughty bits operate correctly in zero gravity.

I also demand a sleeping bag for two velcro'd to the corner of a broom-closet-sized bedroom, and the unironic questioning of how all fluids are going to be captured during the act (and, presumably, purified for later drinking).

Nice webpages at least, and already epic-well-funded so I think rather than $40 or whatever for some kind of pre-purchase of game plus a little spaceship etc., call it a wait and see for me. Again, looks fun but will I be a gamer at heart in late 2015? Maybe not!

A "spiritual successor" to one of my all time favourite games. Yes please. (I had my first ever RP experience on a Freelancer server. And it was awful. But it got me out of FPS and RTS and into RP as a game style). Only worry... the urge to RP with the same terrible Freelancer dialogue Name's Trent... got anything for me?

I'm very curious to see what 45+ million dollars in publisher-free money buys, other than alot of pump-up and fancy promo videos.

Been a backer for a while, would love to play with you all again.
There's a place I like to hide
A doorway that I run through in the night
Relax child, you were there
But only didn't realize and you were scared
It's a place where you will learn
To face your fears, retrace the years
And ride the whims of your mind

If only there was some game you could play that we all held in common here, where you'd likely find folk!
