Gold and a bronze for Finland so far as I know.
Both from shooting.

:camper:

Not much more to look forward to unless the javelin throwing goes well.

Michael Phelps has clearly won the Olympics.

All of it.

I really hate fuckin basketball. We got dudes who play professionally for money, signed by sport agents, etc. . . In the spirit of 'fair' competition. It's bullshit. Through in through.

On a side note: Was watching the 22 or 21 miles, whatever it was today. Looked intense, I don't know how those ethopians do it. I would probably run straight for a chair and guzzle gatoraid.

I know how they do it....

A. They don't have cars.

B. There are a crapload of people with guns.

Makes running those 20 odd miles a bit easier.

I suppose so. I heard somewhere that's how they deliver news, by running. I don't now if that's true or not. Makes them sound a bit like aztecs to be quite honest.

I heard it had a fair bit to do with the arches of their feet.

I wasn't aware that ethiopia was one of the dangerous African countries. People walking around with guns sounds more like a less stable country.

According to this, though:
According to the Ethiopian Telecommunications Corporation (ETC), the average rural inhabitant of Ethiopia has to walk 30 kilometers to the nearest phone.
And I'm pretty sure they have cars, but perhaps not so much in rural areas.

I was chatting to an Ethiopian woman the other week. She had a bit of an American accent. Apparently learnt English off MTV. I was way too drunk to communicate further.

Here's an interesting unoffficial medal tally that allows you to rank countries by Total Medals, Total Gold Medals, Population / Total Medals, Population / Total Gold Medals, GDP / Total Medals and GDP / Total Gold Medals.

I like the Population / Total Medals because NZ is coming second. ;) But NZ is beating Australia in all the Population and GDP rankings, and that's what really counts. :D

was? Is, is a more appropriate word. It's not all bad but. . . yeah.

Christian Children's Fund has been around for a while too just fyi.
I'm not too certain of the breadth(boy I seem to be using that word a lot.) of the org but I am certain there is an international version.

In light(irony!) of human rights abuses, censorship, etc out of China, some fellas feel the need to focus and bring attention to the tibet thing but I always feel its best to focus hard stuff first.

Congrats to NZ for winning that canoe thingy. (cause I managed to watch it.) I'm sure there is a proper name for the canoe & rowing your ass off, but I just don't know. I'm not sure how we did but I heard America did pretty shit.

Ta. It's called rowing. :P Canoeing is where you have a free standing one ended oar, kayaking is where you have a free standing double ended oar and rowing is where you have one (sweep oar) or two (sculling) attached oars.

We expected to do a bit better in the rowing, but I guess we still did pretty well. A gold for the twin girls was a pretty good bonus and made up some what for the bronze from Mahe. Hopefully we'll be getting a medal or three in the up coming kayak races. And we're contenders for medals in the new BMX event (what are they including next in the Olympics? Skateboarding? Bunjy Jumping?)...

The next event is in London, so I wouldn't be that surprised if they include darts and snooker. Maybe sculling (whereby the first person to drink a jug of beer wins, in case you didn't know...)

Looks like China is pulling some pretty suss stuff in an effort to prove their superiority.

That and the presenters on my TV keep saying how well China cleaned everything up in time for the Olympics. I don't know what Olympics they've been watching, because I'm still seeing a whole lot of smog and there are still weeds clogging the rowing course.

Still, they've done a better job than Athens.

Interesting how many people seem to be speculating that Usain Bolt is probably a drug cheat because he did far too well, whereas I never heard anything like that about Michael Phelps. Hmmm...
