If you pass through Madison, Wisconsin, I can show you around town, feed you and give you a couch to sleep on. lagunitas234@gmail.com
I have to warn you, there will be three dogs and two women in the house. It will be harvest season though, and I'm growing hops this year, so I'll probably have some homebrew in the works by the time if and when you get out this way.

Wait until you see Texas. The panhandle is worth a look for it's juxtapositions. It has a very gorgeous minimalism with billboards for the world's largest steak and it also contains the world's largest cross. Probably one of my favorite drives in America next to the badlands and the prairies of the Dakotas in sunflower season.Rotku wrote:Everything is huge here! What's with this place and a lack of fish?Rotku: "So what sort of fish do you have here?"
Waiter: "Just this one, sir" *points to the menu*
R: "Ah, okay. What type of fish is that?"
W: *pauses* "Err... it's frozen"
R: "Well, is it a salt or fresh water fish? lemony? Oily? Anything?"
W: *Another pause* "It's from Alaska"
R: "Oh screw it. Just get me a fucking burger!"
Real beautiful place though - the small part I've seen. Just got back from a jog up the mountain, and looking out over the area as dusk hit was really breath taking.

We dont have a lot of fresh fish in the States except for certain coastal cities and areas, and some of the big lakes will have some Mom & Pop restaurants with fresh fish.Rotku wrote:What's with this place and a lack of fish?![]()

It's due largely to how spread out the population is, the best way to sell fish is to freeze it and ship it.
On your second point, yes, I find America breathtaking at moments, we're blessed to have a wide range of sights and land types available to us. Nothing like New Zealand in that range, but still very nice.
If you like mountains, you should try Denver Colorado (the Rocky Mountains), they are a wonderful sight, especially in winter.

Fish isn't that popular in the US, you have to hunt a bit. I attribute it to most of the country being inland and only experiencing frozen processed bullshit. You'll love it when you get to NYC though, I don't think I ever ate anything in that city that didn't come out of the ocean.Rotku wrote: What's with this place and a lack of fish?![]()
Also make sure you find deep fried catfish at some point.

Catfish are easily the best freshwater fish in my opinion, especially properly deep fried with some cornmeal breading and pepper, and a little tobasco sauce. And if you're in Louisiana, oh man. If you get a good plate of it you will quickly learn the error of your ways.Rotku wrote:Deep fried catfish? Was talking to one of the locals round here at the pub last week about catfish. Back home catfish is the fish you feed to the dogs. Is it any good, or just something I should try for the experience? Doesn't really matter either way, I guess.
For general food suggestions, get some cajun and some soul food at some point. There aren't that many American cuisines because of the whole immigrant thing (the "iconic" American food: a hamburger), but those are two biggies. Both are awesome, cajun particularly.
Fish and seafood of all sorts is generally popular within the northeast. Maine, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, are all famous for their lobsters, oysters, and fish.AmarSldstill wrote:We dont have a lot of fresh fish in the States except for certain coastal cities and areas, and some of the big lakes will have some Mom & Pop restaurants with fresh fish.Rotku wrote:What's with this place and a lack of fish?![]()

People talk of bestial cruelty, but that's a great injustice and insult to the beasts; a beast can never be so cruel as man, so artistically cruel.
