ARENA: Are You Not Entertained?! (Questions)

Soon there shall be arena games!

*Up to three teams in one match.(Red/Yellow/Blue)
*You may, or may not have DM picked 'allies' as well on your team.
*One main caveat is that you will not die, just die of humiliation! When you reach 0 hp
*No pets in matches, constructs, or summons
*No area effect spells, except non-hostile spells (bless, prayer, etc)
*No teleports, or flying outside of arena field.
*No invisibility potions/spells/scrolls - Why would the crowds want to (not-watch) the action.
*No BUFFING in the READY ROOM
*No Magical Equipment, except DM supplied healing potions (see reasoning below)

Are there any other rules that should be in effect? Please state below. This is the first event of this type and our rules need to be ironed with a majority agreement.

There will be the Waterdeep Invitational Arena Champion Belt and 10K up for grabs, and most importantly bragging rights!

Another note: I know this nerfs wizards to an extent, I was thinking as well Waterdeep Wizard Duel event in the future as well to make up for that.

Understand pets and constructs and even summons. But why no AoE spells?

I would be interested to hear group opinions on area effect spells.

The AOE could easily spill over to the spectators Id assume, thereby resulting in mass murder charges to accompany your championship belt.

Area of Effect Spells can spill over into the crowds, they also can hit your teammates destroying the scripted team factions that ayergo has worked on.

After consensus in the chat, no magical items will be allowed, due to the fact that this will end up being a wealth contest. It will be your responsibility to buy your own mundane equipment before the match. I'll be checking folks out as well before you get the green light to fight.

ALSO NOTE: To prolong the fight for the enjoyment of Waterdeep. I will supply a few CSW potions.

I am uncertain what exactly Ayergo is doing for the Fields of Triumph, but I believe the space can be used for a wide variety of events with different rule sets.

I was thinking to begin organizing Tournaments of Warriors that would take place every 3 months. Single Combat competitions until one clear Champion was decided, and then awarding them a magical Championship Belt for them to wear and use so long as they defended their title.

The idea would be to celebrate Warriors in competition against eachother, give all the factions and unaligned a shot at some bragging rights, create RP around the tourney and hopefully inspire someone to run a betting racket.

I was thinking No Magical Items, Weapons, Armor or Potions.
No spells cast but allowing some odd ball cases like....Bardic Inspiration, Dragon Disciple's Breath Weapon, Druid Wild Shape, Paladin Smite Evil, etc.... because those are not Spells or Magic per say, more so fantastic ablities.

After seeing different ideas appearing here and in discord though I do believe that the Field of Triumph could be used to host a multitude of different events such as Spell Duels, Team vs Team, etc....

I still plan to try and organize single combat warrior nonmagical tournaments and have a Magical Championship Belt passed from Champion to Champion ever time a new Champion dethroned the previous.

I would also work to have the names of Champions added to the walls of the House of Heroes.

What about AoE spells that only target enemies ( i.e. Call Lightning, Firebrand etc?)

Some Field of Triumph ideas.....

Smash TV......
Requires a DM and basically involves a team of PC's using any and all of their resources against wave after wave of different monsters, and ending in either their success and prizes or Ded if the DM decides the Monsters would have showed no mercy.

Team vs Team
A set number of PC's vs a set number of PC's with potentially varying rule sets such as no magical items, maybe spells yes, maybe spells no, etc...

Single Combat
Similar to Team vs Team but with lone champions stepping onto the Field to face eachother.

Robot Wars
Teams of Constructs vs Teams of Constructs

Survival of the Fittest
Same as Robot Wars but with Tamed or Trained Animals instead of Constructs

A fair warning. This maybe a bit chaotic being it will be our first time. The next fights 3 months from now we can plan this out better 2 weeks in advance for teams to form up properly.

A bit of confusion on trying to figure out what a permissible, and what is not allowed with AOE spells. "non-damaging aoes" are allowed, prayer, bless, etc while damaging ones are not, ie Fireball, Hammer of the Gods etc. I would like the championship match be more melee centric since historically it was hosted by the House of Heroes followers of Tempus.

If the mages want to have duels let me know, we can matches after the main event. Perhaps for a prize as well.
