Rat lasso . . . or a hangman's noose?

Post by SCI-kick »

Jed sat up weakly on his bed, and began going through some of his belongings. Amongst the items he had were some lasso ropes given to him to try and capture plague rats. As he tightened the loop on the rope, he realized something. For the first time in months his thoughts had a measure of lucidity . . .

"Ahh, this might work. This would be a good way to end it ... end this pitiful , useless existence."

He put the noose around his neck, tightening it.

"Ah, yes, this will work quite nicely. There is not much else I can do , this cursed illness had proven to be incurable. I can no longer wear my armor or hoist a shield, and I can barely even carry my sword. My thoughts are jumbled and I cannot concentrate, at times I don't even remember who I am or where I'm at.

So, this is it, this is how it will end. Why would I sacrifice myself in a hopeless defense or final lash against evil and let them defile my material body and earthly possessions? There is no cowardice in suicide under in this type of hopeless, useless existence."

He laid back down and slept with the rope around his neck. He slept peacefully for the first time in over a month, knowing that the end was near and in his control now. He has accepted his fate.

Wow, amazing post and interesting to see Jed deal with the disease.
There's a place I like to hide
A doorway that I run through in the night
Relax child, you were there
But only didn't realize and you were scared
It's a place where you will learn
To face your fears, retrace the years
And ride the whims of your mind

Jed now carries his will which states all of his wealth and items be donated to the Third Circle, and he also leaves a copy at the Third Circle with Sir Belisarius and in his storage in his room.
