ALFA, GameSpy Nick and me

Sorry about being a pain in the butt, but...

I found my all of my old NWN1 CDs, with their keys, but when I tried to install, my HoU cd-key was invalid. (I know it is mine, I checked it and re-entered from scratch). So, I am going to have to play with the copy I downloaded from *GoG.

However, I understand that GameSpy isn't working anymore, but I am wondering about the nick I am using. I found my old nicks. I had to create another one at some point, but they are both written down in my manual, and I remember them clearly.

The point of all of this is: I obviously can connect to the WD server since I know the password. However, what about making sure that I am really me? Or making sure that I don't play 5 different PCs under different nicks? How do I go about registering my nick so that you know it is me? Or is that not necessary as long as I make sure to always use the same one (which is obviously what I need to do to play the PC I want ... or perhaps I should say the "serial" PCs.

Also, more in the annoyance category, it takes me forever to start playing since I have to click on multiplayer and wait to be told to try another nick and then cancel and Direct Connect. Is there any way to just direct connect by default?

You're only supposed to have one gamespy nick

We're now a small community full of mostly mature older gamers, many of whom have known eachother for over a decade.

I suppose that someone could go through the effort to make multiple gsids and and take on different personas with each and register multiple forum names go with each but ,... man that's a lot of effort for not much.

Back in the busy days of ALFA in 2005 I was involved in a bizarre gsid "copy cat" crime. I at the time had the GSID merado_1. Another player created a a new PC under the GSID merado-1 so that he could log in, loot the corpse of his very wealthy prior PC that had just died, commit suicide with the kinda-me PC, and then loot that corpse with his new PC under his original GSID so that he could start level one with magic weapons, armor etc.

It was weird.

Anyway, we're all grownups now. Just pick a GSID. If you want to make it easy for people to know who you are, put that GSID in your forum nick so that people can connect you in-game and here in the forums.

:)

Thanks Dergon.

Okay, WildWombat it is! That is what is on the "Retire Character" page for NWN2, so I will be consistent.
