Toliv Yanei (Cleric of Solonor Thelandira)

Post by Galadorn »

Description Edit (February 9, 2018):
Toliv seems a little sullen these days. He is less openly cheerful and just a little more serious than before.

Recently, Toliv was graced with rare and fantastic gifts of old, from the Princess of the Misty Forest Village of Daggerford for his service to protect on patrols the surround of the Misty Village; The Ancient Armor of Aryvandaar and its compliment, an Ancient Vyshaan Cloak. He also carries a divine Sheild of Solonor Thelandira, purchased from the Shrine to Solonor North of Daggerford.

Description Edit (August 28, 2017):
When on active duty, Toliv wears full Waterdeep City Watch full plate armor (and cloak) of gold, black and green depicting his rank of Sergeant, Special Investigations Branch. In the center of his chest being used as a cloak pin is his City Watch identification badge.

Description at creation:
This sun elf has near-flawless, smooth bronze skin and straight copper metallic hair. He walks with a grace customary of his kin. His hands are soft and caring. His touch gentle and warm. His voice is subtly melodic and always friendly and warm. He can rarely be mistaken for slightly haughty, even snobby, but within a short enough time such notions are quickly dismissed. He is quick to greet strangers, help those in need, and is generous.

He wears clothing, cloak and robes of high quality, often exotic and elven-made. When traveling he wears green and light blue shaded tinted full plate mail, master-crafted to aid in divine spellcasting. His elven quivers, a matching pair, one on his back and one on his hip, are always filled with a variety of arrows, most useful in hunting but some prepped for a number of side functional use (..armor piercing, silvered, humming, grappling, stunning, etc.).

On one shoulder loosely hangs a medium sized elven suede and leather bag, stuffed for travel with many useful and lightweight items (..elven rope, hand crafted smokepipe, knife, small hammer, candles, rations, paper, ink and well, etc.).

In his hand (or carefully unstrung housed in a custom holder on his back), is his family's longbow. A ancient and beautifully crafted masterwork mighty longbow, it is etched along the shaft with script in the elven language paying homage to the ancient line of his family, extended family, and a number of Seladrine dieties. Careful inspection would also reveal many references to the history of the Dalelands.

A proudly displayed solid silver holy symbol depicts a delicately crafted arrow with finely etched emeralds for fletchings.
(Solonor Thelandira)

“Bow of Yanei”

“This master-crafted longbow of yew bares delicately etched runes of several nature gods, and along the shaft is displayed script in an ancient elven dialect paying homage to the lineage of the Yanei family. Careful inspection would also reveal many references to the history of the Dalelands. An obvious symbol of pride for any who hold it, it has been passed down for millennia through the lines, a rare and unique heirloom of inheritance. It is so finely made and easy to fire, arrows shot from it seem to hunt their target effortlessly and finish with deadly force. It is extremely light yet at the same time quite durable.”

Solonor Thelandira
(The Huntlord, The Forest Hunter, The Great Archer, Keen-eye)

Solonor Thelandira (pronounced soe-loe-nohr theh-lan-dih-ruh) is the elven god of hunting, archery, and survival in wild and harsh places. He taught his followers the arts of hunting; including archery, moving unseen and hiding in the wild places. He watched over the borders of wilderness and farmed land and sought to maintain the balance between them. Solonor lived in the realm of Arvandor on the plane of Arborea.

Solonor manifested as a lean & muscular male elf clad in a cloak of leaves. Wolf, a Beast Totem Spirit worshipped by wild elves, was often depicted at the side of Solonor in religious iconography.

Solonor always kept his word and so did not offer it lightly. He often came across as grim due to the complexities of his duty making compromises between those who wanted to exploit nature's gifts and those who wished to preserve nature in an unaltered state.

Solonor's divine realm was called the Pale Tree and was located in the deepest, most dense part of Arvandor's unspoilt woodlands. It was a huge tree, towering far above even neighbouring redwoods, with white bark and silver leaves. Solonor's petitioners lived among its boughs on platforms, with ropes placed among them for travel between them. Solonor himself spent very little time there. Elves believed that leaves taken from the tree had mystical powers and were therefore very valuable to them.

Solonor was the best archer among all of the gods of Faerûn.

Solonor carried the magical elven longbow Longshot, that could fire as far as the horizon, accompanied by the Quiver of Endless Arrows that never emptied of magical ammunition. He also wore boots of varied tracks and a necklace of adaptation.

Solonor was never in one place long, and was always hunting some quarry or another. He hunted not to kill for killing's sake but to maintain the balance of nature and to destroy evil. He did not close with foes, but tracked them and shot from a distance.

Solonor was well-respected member of the Seldarine, answering to Corellon Larethian. He counted as allies practically all good-aligned nature deities as well as Silvanus and several beast cults. Solonor was particularly close to Eilistraee and Mielikki, both of whom he has been said to be romantically linked with at some point. Solonor counted Malar and Talos as his worst foes, with Lolth earning the next greatest amount of his ire. Solonor also opposed the Unseelie Court, particularly the Queen of Air and Darkness, and any deity who would despoil nature.

Solonor's worshipers were invariably elves or half-elves of a natural bent, usually rangers, or other warriors who were particularly skilled at archery.

Dogma of Solonor:
Walk in harmony with nature and oppose the efforts of those who would disturb her delicate balance. Preserve the wild places from excessive encroachment, and work with those who would settle the land to preserve the beauty that first attracted them. Hunt only for sustenance, culling the old and the weak from the herd so that all species may prosper. Like an arrow in flight, it is difficult to arrest the consequences of an action. Choose your targets carefully, for an ill-considered action can have a long-reaching impact.

Event:

For days he came to the Dagger... The Damned Dripping Dagger....
The task was simple... darts.
The goal...cataclysmic in achievement... at least 146 points.
The enemy... revolting beyond expression in any known language... a halfling named Rudy.
The days passed, the Cleric relented not. His arms ached. His brain swelled from the runt's teasings. His fingers bled...

Day 1, 999 throws.... 333 attempts...... high score? 143. ---- Rudy 1 - Toliv 0
Day 2, 600 throws.... 200 attempts...... high score? 143, ---- Rudy 2 - Toliv 0
Day 3, 1578 throws.... 526 attempts..... high score? 145, ---- Rudy 2 - Toliv 0 (TIED)... his prayers were harsh that night....
Day 4, 345 throws.... 115 attempts..... high score? 147, ---- Rudy 2 - Toliv 3

The puny fool relents his gift to the now king of darts...
The Cleric accepted the prize looking down his nose at the quivering fool of a half-man... thinking it is not material that which is the true prize here...
"That's it? Darts? Screw you." was his last words.

Last words from the runt...?
"I do not deserve to gaze upon thee, oh master of the art of dart-throwing." ((<-- the real prize.))

For those who wish to attempt to beat the NEW record, 147 points, so be it from now until it be done, there will be a new and better prize awarded to he or her from the current record holder, Toliv Yanei. To find out what it is?........
..........start throwing.

(OOC: re-post from "Waterdeep City Watch Post is recruiting!" thread)

Event:

- Toliv Yanei, Cleric of Solonor Thelandira the Huntlord places an official application to the rank of Seargeant or Lieutenant.

Application to be considered with special considerations regarding duties (relaxed on-call duty), personal liberties in town and on the streets of Waterdeep (i.e. to summon Dire beasts in the streets anytime in life and death situations based on his own judgement, among others), and license to kill those who attempt murder or cause unjust bodily harm to himself or other innocents.

Numerous references include Sarya posted in the City Watch Post of the Adventurers' Quarter, the Helmite priest Kiber Ederick of Helm's Hall in the Adventurer's Quarter, Lt. Dan Hansen, and numerous others to be revealed if further references required.

Regardless of Rank gained, Toliv Yanei includes that he will accept NO salary to compensate for the request of relaxed duties and increased freedom to take leave when requested.

Toliv is a resident of Waterdeep, residing in the Docks District and has no criminal record.

Application addendum:

- Toliv Yanei formally suggests increased surveillance and patrols in the docks district, and to that end offers his home as a option to instate as a fully licenced and official permanent "City Watch Post".

If this is approved by City Council, conversion of the bottom floor of the residence into a partial or full Watch garrison, will need constructive aid and design to accommodate Patrolmen and women 24 hourly shiftwork, overnight individual and patrol squad residences as well as a partial to full City Watch Armory, Supply depot and Holding cell unit.

Toliv purchases an Estate in the Docks district. Future plans for renovations to accomodate orphaned children overflow from the Helmites of Helm's Hall, and possible use as an auxillary City Watch Post and supply garrison should his application to join the City Watch be accepted.

Waterdeep City Watch Special Investigations Branch Report
Reporting member: Sergeant Toliv Yanei
RE
: Missing/Abandoned Children

- Concern over the increased number of non-goblinoid babies both dead and alive.

- Some have been willfully abandoned, others are being abducted outright.
Source: Kiber at Helm's Hall; women who have come to him asking if their children had been recovered.

- Thayans are offering gold for infants found in the sewers. This is a recent development. Concern is that the Thayans are merely procuring more merchandise for their slavery enterprises.

Investigation ongoing.

Awaiting further orders, will continue the investigation.

Waterdeep City Watch Special Investigations Branch Report
Reporting member: Sergeant Toliv Yanei
RE
: Goblinoid Threat (Sewers)

- The rats/were-rats are contesting land within the rats hills against the goblins, but are slowly losing the battle,
and been driven into the city.

- Goblins have been stealing dogs from the streets. Probably both for food and for training.

- Goblins using quite powerful magic to hide behind very strong doors.

- Goblins are very well trained in advance melee combat and shamanistic and arcane training.

Source: Clarence (Druid of Chauntea)

- The goblins are led by a "king" who lives with a "goblin dragon god", and has 3 underlings who serve him. The
underlings have their own areas of dominion in the sewers.

- The first two Underling Leaders have been killed by a group of adventurers and I:
- *The Patriarch (priest) who has a force of fallen (undead) adventurers
- *The slave master who keeps captured slaves and animals

- The third Leader, the group and I have plans to scout his whereabouts exactly and plan an attack:
- *The warlock who has a force of other-worldy imp type things
- The goblin warlock is said to reside in the south of the city, almost directly under the safehaven inn, behind an
enspelled door. Fire and brimstone are his spells of choice, and he can clear a room with fire. He is very dangerous.

Investigation ongoing.

Awaiting further orders, will continue the investigation.

Waterdeep City Watch Special Investigations Branch Report
Reporting member: Sergeant Toliv Yanei (In The Field)
RE
: Investigate Dragon Cult Clan

- Encountered a Black Dragon Scale Lancer far south of Waterdeep along the Trade Way, several miles North of Daggerford town. Lancer was winged and attacking wildlife without remorse, and after observation did not skin or collect meat from his kills.
- Encountered Lancer did not respond to hails or direct conversation or questions, ignoring me, and blocked the passage south.
- After a short discussion (1-sided), I made judgement the Lancer was hostile and summoned Dire Wolf that dispatched the threat.

Investigation ongoing.

Awaiting further orders, will continue the investigation.
