Re: Information To Be Shared
Bran and Wayfarer, with support from Brett (NPC), braved the Catacombs of Yintros again.
The place was crawling with more beetles than before, which seemed to return shortly after an area was cleared.
Some traps were disarmed, many bugs were squashed and treasures were gathered.
All in all, a successful adventure!
But be warned, make sure you have plenty of elemental (fire) protection!

Re: Information To Be Shared
Anyone chatting with Wayfarer over ales in the Safehaven in the recent days would learn a number of things:
1) A trip down into a crypt to rid the City of the Dead of undead saw a vast number of creatures of unlife, including the freshly dead, the ancient dead, creatures of shadow, and spell casting skeltons.
2) Found on that expedition was a note written on what seems to be a piece of skin, the creature of origin unknown. (Wayfarer will happily hand over the note to whomever wishes to examine it).
It reads:
"Master Woland requests the presence of your company at his Spring Festival celebration. Please RSVP with this note through Azazelo for location and details."
Alongside the note was a chest full of fine clothing, both men's and women's, in the current fashion of Waterdeep.
3) In what can't be a simple coincidence Wayfarer "bumper into" Helia, the beautiful woman he had met through Innocent of Sune, immediately as he ascended from the City of the Dead crypt. She was charming and pleasant as always and, despite his better judgement Wayfarer offered her escort out of the park and through the city to a high priced inn the weathly part of the city.
4) An additional "chance" encounter had Wayfarer also meeting the Begemot, the cat man, while walking in the Rat Hills. The trickster attempted to recruit Wayfarer to become employed by "us" ("us not be further defined). The offer was declined.

Re: Information To Be Shared
It would seem undead, mephits and imps are now the least of the monsters plaguing the city!
Marisha, Keryn, Wayfarer and Bran faced infernal beasts in an abandoned shop on the edge of the Adventuring quarter.
They however had to retreat from a powerful vulture-like demon (called a vrock)!
As Wayfarer went to handle private affairs, Marisha, Bran and Keryn investigated rumours of strange noises coming from the Trading company.
Once again, they faced infernal beasts (including a fiery horse-like beast called a Nightmare) and only narrowly avoided death when faced with yet another vrock and a small army of beasts.
After some rest, and joined with Arryn, they tested a new strategy and were able to defeat the remaining single Vrock in the abandoned shop.
Although the "planar incursions" seem limited inside two buildings so far, there's no telling when (and how) it will get worse.
Be warned that a vrock is resistant to most spells and elemental damage and can only be injured by weapons beyond a basic enchantment.

Re: Information To Be Shared
Keryn, Bran and Jackman went to the North Ward Watchpost to see if an incarcerated man who called himself "The Master" was still being held in prison. He was, and after creating a front for entering the lower cells, they had a long conversation with the man. "The Master" was a writer who wrote about the death of Yeshua, avatar of Ilmater in Waterdeep. Yeshua was sentenced to death by the city. This work was considered blasphemy. The Olam College burned it. Some gave false testimony against him. He lost everything ... his wife, wealth, and status. He suggested either seeking answers to our mystery with the city or try to find one of Yeshua's disciples. One disciple was a tax collector named Levi. "The Master" confirmed that the Trading Company used to house a tax collector.
"Having an adventure shows that someone is incompetent, that something has gone wrong. An adventure is interesting enough in retrospect, especially to the person who didn't have it; at the time it happens it usually constitutes an exceedingly disagreeable experience." Vilhjalmur Stefansson
Re: Information To Be Shared
A few more bits about the conversation with The Master:
- There's a woman named Mariana, who has been searching for a man. Well, apparently that man is The Master. He was pretty adamant that we don't tell her where he is and instead tell her he's dead. (Bran thinks they should not do that).
- Even though it became apparent that nobody could actually manage to describe Woland, The Master had some thoughts on Woland: That he is a Devil, that he should not be trusted, and yet, that Woland would not lie.
- There was some ramblings about waterdhavians being sinners and paying for those sins, through the undead and demons. Bran is mentioning it because earlier that same evening, one of Woland's henchmen (Korokiev?) used those same words (sins, sinners, etc.).
- Keryn questioned the Master about planar incursions and such, but the man admitted not knowing much about the topic. However his manuscript did containt events related to the Time of Trouble, about the avatar of Ilmater.

Re: Information To Be Shared
During their conversation The Master made it apparent that the source of the planar incursions could have been created wherever the aspect of Ilmater was killed. Yeshua’s execution site should be found and the source eliminated.

Keryn, Marisha, Arryn, Dahvet, Twilight and Bran took on the fiends of the TLC. The building was cleared, with no grave injuries to the party.
An unstable portal was discovered in a secret room in the basement and closed.
Among the items uncovered, there was a note written by Levi and some memento belonging to Keryn's mentor, Rekka.
Note:
I have met the most interesting man today... a simple beggar, but seemingly with a hear unlike any other I have met. He made even me, a tax collector feel not hated, but loved. I must return and learn more from him. signed, Levi.

Warning!
Fiend wanders the Castle Ward near a portal!
Wayfarer and Bran are making warnings to the Watch and to their fellow adventurers that some fiend is now walking the Castle ward not far East of the Market (Describes area 2L)
As Trailyn attempted to close a portal a creature stepped through ...humanoid wearing black plated armor and wielding a dire blade.
Wayfarer struck the creature square in the chest with a full-forced blow of his large sword but the thing laughed it off.
It is likely still roaming the area at this time.

Local nobleman and student of the snookery Ronald Kingsburough was walking through the area and engaged the beast, quickly dispatching it. He was quoted as saying "the fiend was greatly exaggerated, and had little training against advanced tactics such as mine. This is what happens when uneducated country bumpkins come to the big city and play with witchcraft. "dergon darkhelm wrote:Warning!

There's a place I like to hide
A doorway that I run through in the night
Relax child, you were there
But only didn't realize and you were scared
It's a place where you will learn
To face your fears, retrace the years
And ride the whims of your mind

Re: Unstable portals and their destruction
1) It seems that any type of damage can be used to destroy/close an unstable portal. This may be elemental or physical.
2) Each individual traumatic event to the portal has the same likelihood of triggering the passage of extraplanar creatures through the gate. This is the same regardless of the amount of damage done. Therefore, in order to minimize the number of creatures passing through, maximal damage should be done in blow while attempting to destroy the gates.

Keryn would add that while any type of damage seems to be able to destroy them, they are only susceptible to magic or highly-enchanted weapons.

So Tegrin is getting settled in at the Adventurer’s Quarter and has inquired about there being a “hin district” within the city. With his recent experience at the Rat Hills and hearing the many stories and rumors of dangers and threats, Tegrin feels he should seek out any existing shrine to halfling deities.
