Info for Players on 011
Please have a read through the following info for how 011 works;
1) Server Bounds
The current server bounds are from Dragonspear Castle in the West to Hillsedge in the East and from Soubar in the South to Highstar Lake in the North.
The exterior part of the server is made from Travel Areas which are at 25% scale (named x02, x03, etc). There are no restrictions on where you can move within the areas. Travelling between areas is seamless, so to cross an area boundary walk "through" the edge. Some areas such as towns are cut out of the scaled version, so to enter e.g. Soubar or Dragonspear Castle you need to use the normal ATs. These are marked as map points.
2) Encounters
The travel areas have a looping script that can trigger encounters. If an encounter is triggered you and your party will be jumped to another area to resolve the encounter. To exit the encounter area you need to use the AT marked on the minimap. The encounter areas are quite large so you should have time to sneak or buff if required. One thing to note; the encounter system steps through all PCs in the area and checks for an encounter on solo PCs and PARTY LEADERS. If you are not partied up with your current group you may have to face an encounter alone.
3) Starting areas
There are currently 3 choices for where to start for new characters;
Gnomes may choose to start as part of the mining village of Silverborough.
Human Barbarians, Druids and Spirit Shamen may choose to start as High Moor tribespeople at their winter gathering place. This is a more risky option as it's a long walk to civilisation.
All other new characters start in Soubar.
4) DM Quests
There are a few built-in quests that can be triggered by being the right person (race/gender/class/deity etc). If you trigger such a quest you will get a Journal entry with a reference number. Please contact a DM and quote the reference number to accept the quest.
5) Heartlands Achievements
There are a number of *persistent* encounters to be found that give extra XP and loot when defeated approximated to what you would have received if DMed at the time. Each one is "one-shot" and will notify you by a Journal entry when complete. There are no restrictions to where you can explore, but I have implemented a system where if you are entering an area that is obviously too dangerous for your party you should be warned. Disclaimer: If you feel like exploring holes in the ground and get iced don't complain that the warning system didn't work, k?
6) Look Behind You
In a lot of cases the bad guys are set to walk about the place. Don't assume that because you're standing still you're not going to bump into something.
7) Skywing Client Extender
Please try and avoid the temptation of using the map function of the client extender. Please. The underground areas are supposed to be mazey, claustrophobic and uncharted. Waltzing straight across them with one click makes most of my work pointless.
New Character Friendly
As an extension of the old OAS2 WHL has quite a few statics that are aimed at beginning PCs and the few roads are relatively safe for "ducklings". The wilderness and underground parts of the server are sometimes rather less forgiving.
I hope you enjoy exploring the Heartlands, and play nice
Teric

WIKED.
Just a quick question:
Encounters triggered are they tiered based on the leader's level? or are they just simply random difficulty all the time?
Example:
3 PC group: level 1,2,8
CASE 1: If level 1 is LEADER...
CASE 2: If level 8 is LEADER...
Will the random encounter system for both Case 1 and Case 2 parties trigger the exact same pool of encounters?
In case this is too much information, i'm 100% in no need of any response, just curious is all. It won't change any of MY actions IC. Cheers!

I could answer this but then I'd have to kill you. Naw, kidding, encounters come off a table based on common/rareness of creatures, PC level is not involved.Galadorn wrote:WIKED.

Sounds interesting to say the least! Was waiting for more information before really digging in to roll a new pc

This demon I blame (a flickering flame).
Conspire as one, exactly the same.
It's exactly the same!!"

Re: Info for Players on 011
Nice! I wish the other systems could implement a way to warn players when they wonder into an area over their head. Kind of like in PnP when the module cover said "For a party of x levels y-z".

Hello!
Went to Waterdeep Docks (on MS).
Clicked the WP (the one on the ground) to WHL.
Portalling process began.
Did not prompt me for a password.
Said password was "incorrect"... and I got booted from server to GameSpy screen.
Still trying!

The normal password will be restored in about 2 and a half hours.
Which is the time the server officially hits live status.

Downloading the server files failed for me.

Noob question....
To get to WHL from Silver Marches requires passing through Moonshaes, but can you get to MS without going through BG?

Re: Info for Players on 011
I'm not sure where the portal from TSM to WHL is located, but I'd hope that one exists or is planned since they're neighbors on the map.
The portal from TSM to MS is in Silverymoon.
The portal from TSM to BG is in Rivermoot.

Re: Info for Players on 011
Does it go via the "Waterdeep Harbor" node, which far as I understood is on the MS server? So technically TSM->MS->WHL.
