The Ten Treasures of Captain Ironclaw.

Post by orangetree »

"Are you in the mood for a tale of treasure and pirates?" Asks a simple bard in Corwell.

"Well, this is a very typical tale, with a not quite so typical ending... because nobody actually knows, quite how it will end. Still interested, oh ye adventurers? Of course you are! Who wouldn't be? This is not just any 'ordinary' treasure... or any ordainary tale of greed and lust for gold.."

This is the story of...

The Ten Treasures of Captain Ironclaw.

Theologians have a certain... belief. In an axis, you could say... that Good and Evil... Law and choas... that these things are very real, and have important consequences. I know not if this is true... but these ten treasures... Yes... to them there is something about this axis.

It is not known what these treasures are. Some take the form of powerful weapons or gems... some of them are powerful devices. One thing they all have in common, is that they can only be used by a certain 'kind' of person. How does one divine such things though... that is a real mystery.

The Axe of Murder for instance, a despicable evil that will enrage one with great power to smite foes... revels in chaos and destruction. It can only be held by someone who shares that same taste for blood... and not care who's it would taste. It can even strike against its owner... if it were in a particularly vile mood.

The Staff of Light, was its counterpart... balanced by its capacity to harm by its desire for good... a weapon without even the slightest edge, even upon the very ends of it made of wood rather then cold steel. It's not just a big stick though... it's said that a powerful light can be summoned, by those who hold it- enough that it can vanquish the undead...

So many other's of these treasures, with their own unique properties.. all based on the axis.

But when placed together... it is claimed that it will summon a powerful force... Some claim it could be a magic wish for whoever was so capable... other's claim it will grant immortality...

Captain Ironclaw, brought these treasures together, on a long forgotten isle... and something happened.

...The only thing we know for certain, is that these weapons were then scattered upon the moonshaes, never to be seen again. But they are always calling out... calling for those who could seek them. Calling for thralls to 'guard' them... and many reside with all manners of beasts and possibly even dragons.

The smartest of you are probably saying.. hey, ten? There should only be nine! Well one of em' seems to not care who you are... the compass. It can guide you to all the treasures. But who knows where that is.

Is there Truth to this story? Perhaps... and perhaps one day, adventurers will find out.
