Tavern Tales & Rumours

Many tales are told around the Moonshaes, though not all are fables of heroes and villains of old. Around the campfires of travelling adventurers and before the blazing hearths of the seediest dive to the most elegant of social clubs, local news and gossip spreads as fast as the air itself can carry it.

Pull up a seat, strangers and familiars alike. Will you be the subject of loud boasts, grudging respect, or whispered warnings? Or do you have your own tale to tell?

Here are your rumors, which your PC is free to either have heard or not heard:

Gwynneth Isle:

1. Some strange group of humans and demihumans is now occupying the ruined Caer Darkhorn (Caer = Castle). The local villagers are giving the palce a wide berth as usual and tryign to ignore the goigns on, given the place's dark past. Druids have been dispatched to keep an eye on things.

2. The road to Cantrev Wyngate is closed by decree, because of "sea monsters" in the neighboring marshes.

3. A mysterious group is apparently living in Winterglen forest, those who investigate too deeply end up missing.

4. Something is dismembering Burt's sheep who graze close to the ruins of Macsheenan.

5. Fur bearing animals are noticeably decreased around Corwell town, despite a ban on hunting for pelts imposed by the local druid grove.

6. Fey creatures have begun molesting humans, driving farmers from the outer regions. Locals swear the fey are seekign to drive humans from teh Isle of Gwynneth.

7. Pirates appear to be raiding shipping along the south coast again, despite the combined presence of Amnian and Moonsahes naval forces, and frequent visits by freelance pirate hunters. The navy is convinced that teh pirates have a large secret base somewhere nearby.

8. Strange lights have more frequently appeared over the sunken portion of Flamsterd Isle. Gwynneth's fishermen now refuse to go anywhere near the place.

9. The dwarves of Gwynneth have allowed a gnomish colony to establish itself at teh foot of their home mountains. The gnomes are busy experimenting with something they call "sustainable forestry".

Oman's Isle:

1. Trolls are taking over the Old Stone Forest.

2. The Northmen have begun agitating for a raid on the Nelanthar pirates, who have put a dent in the lucrative shipment of Northman loot to coastal markets (usually near the same markets the Northmen stole it from).

A priest has been seen in and around Cantrev Koart from far off lands asking strange questions of the locals. On occasion he can be seen hawking in the city square for any skilled woodsman, man at arms or adventurer who would be willing to assist with the protection of the local livestock from the restless plague of undead that lurk near there. It is also rumored that he will provide compensation for services rendered toward this end.

Pay heed and know that the spirit of the Judge will lay these undead to rest. And hearken here and listen that any who would so aid the judge in this task will be duly rewarded.

*a bright banner of painted canvas, appears on the an old Inn, just three doors down from the arrival point of most mainland ships in Gwyneth Corwell. It is written in a fine block script, by a well-trained hand and decorated with a harp, a full wine glass of bright red wine, and a lute. On the bottom there are is a small series of baby sized hand-prints, a few larger ones next to it*

"Trapper's Hold Inn: Bards every evening at sunset, hot fires, heated baths, warm rooms, and clean linens. Laundry service available out back. Low prices and a fine selection of wines and spirits. Come on in!"

A fishmonger's stall at Corwell recently caught fire and burned down, causing a commotion as guards responded to the flames and smoke. No cause was noted in the immediate aftermath, though rumor has it that the fey set the fire to Mark's place of purveyance.

Talk abounds the taverns of Gwynneth about unending hoards of undead crawling out of the sea and onto the isle looking to rend the living apart. The undead have been seen all across the Isle and even fought off by some, while others who have witnessed such grizzly sights have not had the fortune to escape the clutches of the shambling masses. Still though there is some hope heard amongst the gossip and rumor mongering, in that a Priestess of the Foehammer may have found the source of the rampant undead and seeks a band of heroes to strike true at it's black unbeating heart and stop it from blighting the land ever again.

Undead are popping up all over the isles, in the form of easily dispatched zombies...but who knows what is behind it. They seem to be targeting human settlements, leading many to believe that the fey queen is behind it all.

Guests arriving at Trapper's Tavern do receive the customary welcome this day. In fact, Aniie has them not enter the building at all.

Although explanation was given as to the casue or the temporary closure, one patron was heard to say "Smells like a morgue in there."

(Trapper Wind is looking for some sort of clarification here. Annie hasnt been spawning time to time, but it would be nice if someone would drop her/Lett a note, since they live in the basement, and are pretty much "there" all the time)

Rumor has it there is an experienced scout for hire, a half-elf outlander who claims to be widely travelled. It is rumored that he is even willing to do more unsavory types of work as well if the price is right. It is said that there is one special obligation he requires of any who hire him-- for the duration of the job the client may not use any fire. It's said he can usually be found around the Slippery Eel.

According to the word on the street a large, well armed party set off for Darkhorn early in the day a little while ago. Apparently, the routed some Banites near or in the castle ruins there. There's even whispers of some sort of alter or device being taken to the druids for destruction.

What's more, everyone that went out came back. Perhaps a little beat up and gore covered, but apparently the group had no losses.
