So, .org just has not been reliable for us lately. We don't own it. Its owner isn't interested in giving it to us. And, the IA can't adjust it if needed.

pragmatic (adj.)
The opposite of idealistic is pragmatic, a word that describes a philosophy of "doing what works best."
From Greek pragma "deed," the word has historically described philosophers and politicians who were
concerned more with real-world application of ideas than with abstract notions. A pragmatic person
is sensible, grounded, and practical.
If we ever hope to bring people via seo (search engine optimisation), then .pw needs to be out (.pw is the country code top-level domain for Palau. It was originally delegated to the Pacific island nation of Palau in 1997.)
in search engines, in order of importance in results, .com is best, .org or .net are second, .info is third and the rest, well, at that point for seo purposes they just don't matter.
But if we are looking at a completely private domain, virtually invisible in search results, then either option is good.
Good notes, but that's no longer true. Take, for instance, the .io domain. It's for the British Indian Ocean Territory. But how many sites for .io do you know that actually use that? Meanwhile, you see plenty of .io domains.
Similarly with .ly, .io, and .me. Millions have used bit.ly without having anything to do with Lybia.
Top level domains are not what they were a decade ago. If .io can now mean "input/output" and be a general domain used by internet startups, can't .pw mean something for us?

Info or something else; I don't think the term persistent world most accurately represents what ALFA is or does best.
Formerly: Aglaril Shaelara, Faerun's unlikeliest Bladesinger
Current main: Ky - something

Castano wrote:.org seems to be redirecting to .info. So I think we stay as is?
Sometimes.
The issue is that Murky has it set up so that .org has 2 IPs it redirects to. So it works. Randomly. Sometimes. Give it a couple of hours and it probably won't work for you.
And the dynamic DNS doesn't work. Try pinging bg.alandfaraway.org when your DNS is pointing to the second IP configured, and it won't work.
It's just too inconsistent and waiting weeks for Murky to respond is not good.
Anything is fine so long as you do the work to Google optimise it as well as go through the tedium of moving the site up the rankings once you switch.
Edit: Or maybe it doesnt matter in the least as ALFA doesnt come up at the top of any relevant searches that are anything other than 'A Land Far Away'. So just go on and switch it and carry on as is.

Whatever URL we get, and I stress we here, the record owner should agree that it will be transferred to the next IA and so on down the chain. Probably should put this in the charter as well. Otherwise we're just resowing the seeds for the same problem we have now - people long gone who likely have busy lives where providing tech support to their old RP community is not too high on the priority list.

Hialmar and I are willing to transfer things around (well, I am, just guessing based on working with Hialmar here). We've just had a couple of bad eggs when Zicada bought .org and sold it to Murky for $150.
