Hey all,
Just curious where we stand with Western Heartlands? Do we need anything to bring the server back at this point?
Thanks!

We are still trying to contact the host. Absent that what is needed now is at least a backup host. Anyone have a spare machine?

It's down, has been down for a couple of weeks, and the characters that were on it have been globally flagged as playable on BG.
Those who already have characters on BG may request validation on TSM/MS or may log in on BG for the purposes of getting to the ship "portals" only.
I believe that we need to refer to the charter/rules and would suggest that the Admin responsible (Castano, I believe) determine whether to either downgrade the server to a "beta" status and disconnect it from our live system, or find a new host and flesh out the server and get it into an actual live status, as it was rather like an empty sandbox.

I have checked yesterday.
The IP we have in alandfaraway.org is not correct. The one that my noip hostname points to (whl.no-ip.info) is good but when I connect through RDP I end up with a completely blue screen (not a BSOD but still unusable). So we would need the host to do a reset.
I'll send him a mail but I suppose you already did that so...

I hadn't actually made that change on account that there is a server posting to the general server lists claiming to be our WHL.
It doesn't seem to respond to the usual messages, so it's probably off the database, but that looked like someone was working on it. If it's still unplayable, I can still localize people; just haven't yet, on account of the WHL that is on the lists.

Ah, I see. Well, go ahead and localize when you feel that it is appropriate to do so.
Castano, how would you feel about merging BG and WHL into one server, so that we have a reliable host? I can bring it up to snuff with creatures as well.

I am opposed to merging the modules, because that would reduce the playspace for additional PCs, our people who DM on BG etc. Also WHL uses a travel map and is an entirely different take on a PW DnD area due to that.
If we cannot get a reliable WHL host up I am ok with any other member with capacity hosting the WHL module as is.

I had planned to DM tonight if the host was back up by now.

I have just managed to get to the host and restart it remotely.
I sent a Ctrl-Alt-Suppr to it to get it to do something.
*crosses fingers* Maybe it will come back up.
Edit: it didn't come back up

Let's hope the hosting person will be able to restart it and/or reconnect it to the network.

We need a volunteer who knows how to set up an ALFA host computer remotely. this means setting up the module and connecting it to the vault.
We already have hardware and internet connection commitments from members.

I think the best solution would be to run WHL off the same host as another server. I was never able to run more than one instance of NWNx4 on the same machine, but I'm sure there's a way. I didn't look into it very long. I can give this another shot on BG if you guys want.

A host box may be coming to my house also. I'll support either option. Having additional hosting space at my home will also provide us with some hosting backup.

I'd prefer keeping one host to one game server, and not attempting to host two servers at once from one machine.

I got an answer from the host.
He will check the computer ASAP.
He was on holidays.
