AnalogKid's PA platform and Questions Thread

Post by Analogkid »

First off, you all know me. For those of you who think you know me based on hearsay, rumor or things pertaining to a PC I play, forget that. I've been around here since the start of ALFA 1. My background in RL is in construction, finance, real estate and banking, not that it matters here. I started playing D&D when I was 11, both in its table top form and with the gold box games.

First i'll focus a little bit about about each part of the PA's job then cover a little bit about my philosophy as a whole.

Applications: The questions on the application are appropriate and I don't think they need to be changed. Our current system seems to be working, as it should be after all these years.

Guilds: Things seem to be running fine with the in game player guilds and their use of the forums. We should encourage the creation of more in game guilds when possible and I would use the position of PA to work with interested players who wish to create new guilds.

ALFA's Player Manual: It's kept up to date and is easily accessible, and it will remain so.

ALFA Representatives: I believe the names of all current ALFA Reps should be easy accessible. I also believe that each ALFA Rep should be currently active within the game/ALFA to maintain their position. Any Rep who is no longer active, will be removed and replaced. I also would promote the idea of ALFA Reps being able to log onto servers they play on as DM's under extreme circumstances related to player harassment, cheating, or griefing, if no other DM is available.

Player Discipline: ALFA often seems to go from extreme leniency to extreme intolerance. Perhaps its only a perception, but its there. In ALFA, all the rules SHOULD apply to all the players here. Still we're all human and sometimes mistakes are made and we have to look at each case with an open mind. Actions must be reviewed within context when examined and everyone will be heard in regards to complaints. I will be there to listen to all complaints or issues that may arise, and will deal with them promptly and appropriately.

Player Acceptance: I want to see all of ALFA move towards being OPEN servers eventually, with players being allowed to reach level 3 at the latest before submitting an application. That should give us enough time to examine the RP of any prospective player, and also be able to deal with the A-holes who might show up.

Final thoughts: Beyond these key points, I believe we have to maintain an openness that has at times been lacking. The opening up of MS and BG are and were good and hopeful steps. Reaching out to past players is another. I will focus on being the best there is in the practical aspects of being PA but will always be open ideas from the community of players.

Good news the alfa wiki (links on the main page or here for the really lazy - http://www.alandfaraway.org/wiki/Main_Page) is addressing both these issues.

Question : Would you consider re-classing Drake into a non warlock for my vote?

Question : How would you deal with players who are scumbags?

No.

That depends on what you define as a scumbag. A person who with whom one disagrees with about some matter of policy, generally isnt a scumbag, nor is a player who may not be familiar with how ALFA runs things a scumbag either. In the case, of a person who is malicious or who intentionally causes trouble or lessens the fun of other players, I would be open to hearing them out but at the same time I would hope we could act quickly in removing those who are overt problems.

1) What is your view on server hopping (assuming it is inside the rules) but as an effort to get more DM / RP time?

2) What is your view on the negative HP floor in the face of suicidal actions by PCs?

3) What is your view on this statement "Permadeath does not exist in ALFA for a high level PC not soloing"?

4) What is your view on DM's house or server rules regarding resurrections?

5) What is your view on DM's house or server rules regarding attacking negative unconscious PCs (to kill them)?

I apologize in advance if some of the questions may not have the correct technical terms.

As long as the rules are all followed and there's no VERIFIABLE proof of metagaming, and the only reason is to participate in DM play/RP, I have no problem with it.
2) What is your view on the negative HP floor in the face of suicidal actions by PCs?
It's a bit clumsy at times, but given how dangerous things can be with lag, and slow reaction times, the -6 floor gives people at least a bit of time to act in an IC way. Now if the PC is jumping off of a 500 ft cliff onto jagged rocks, well I would expect the DM and player to be be willing to work...past that floor.
3) What is your view on this statement "Permadeath does not exist in ALFA for a high level PC not soloing"?
It's not as black and white as that, and it could be argued that permadeath is far less likely once you have enough IC friends with enough money, no matter what your level. It then becomes more of what the player wants in reality.
4) What is your view on DM's house or server rules regarding resurrections?
Thats up to the DM team on the server as long as the general rules on resurrections are still followed.
5) What is your view on DM's house or server rules regarding attacking negative unconscious PCs (to kill them)?
IF it makes sense, logically based on the encounter, then so be it.

What are your thoughts on corrupt administration and staff? Given evidence of metagaming or powergaming on behalf of an administrator or staff member, do you think that said member's contributions to ALFA should have a bearing on the way their cheating behavior is handled by PA and admin as a whole?

Would you agree that corrupt admin should be punished more severely and held to a higher standard than or at least an equal standard to other players, regardless of your perceptions of how indispensable said admin is thought to be to the community?

Any individual who cheats should be dealt with appropriately. Given an actual and specific claim against a member of admin, the normal process of dealing with such behavior will be followed without issue on my part.
