ACR v1.91 Released

Post by Zelknolf »

A new version of the ACR is released. As always, the full notes about the release can be found through the technical documentation link from our front page, as well as here:
http://www.alandfaraway.org/node/2690
There are some items in this release which were hotfixed early in the v1.90 release (like the 6 minute, 30 second heartbeat), but are officially documented here, due to the precise order of development v. releases.

The primary highlights of this release are the ACR Chooser:
http://www.alandfaraway.org/node/2695

And the loot generator:
http://www.alandfaraway.org/node/2679

Players: should be aware of the usual information surrounding a hak release-- there's always a lot of downloading to do, so if you have a scheduled thing on an upgraded server, try to account for downloading time in that scheduling.

If you cast spell mantle, you no longer get those excessive bits of power from preparing them empowered. Preparing an empowered spell mantle is no longer significantly better than preparing the next-better one.

New item options also might mean that some of your gear could benefit from retooling. If you have gear made from the special materials listed on the release notes, you might ask about getting a new copy that the ACR will have an easier time reading.

Also be aware that you might appear to abruptly lose and re-acquire an item, if a DM seeks an automatic repricing of that item. If you see this, you might want to check your quickslots; any one that uses the selected item will need to be re-made.

Builders: your life is pretty much the same. Grab the new haks if you're going to compile anything, or you might have regression bugs.

DMs: you have new tools, linked above.

Be aware that repricing items actually destroys the original and makes a new one, which will break quickslots. Please do not do this to the gear of any PC without warning or without time to repair quickslots before entering stressful or action-oriented events.

Module Maintainers/ HDMs: Upgrade checklist lives in the same place as before (near the bottom of this-- http://www.alandfaraway.org/node/2161 -- it is, as before, organized with stuff targeted toward larger groups at the top).

Take special care to use the haks from /NWN2/HAK/v1.91/ on the DM FTP on your server. alfa2_templates.hak has multiple versions this release, and the one on the ADL, while it is perfectly fine for players and builders, won't quite cut it for the server.

Extra information about this release which may be helpful during the upgrade is in the release schedule thread here:

Thanks to everyone on the tech team (I won't list names for fear of omitting anyone). These fixes, esp. the pricing ones will go a long way to solving problems we used to have to fix manually.

Zelknolf deserves a great thanks for her consistent and overwhelming contributions to ALFA tech. She is pretty much single-handedly responsible for every front-end tech advancement. Huge props to you, Zelk.

Thank you to all involved, especially Zelk.

Now, bugs. :)
The new chooser doesn't see {curly brackets} in area names. I happen to have a lot of duplicate areas e.g High Moor and {DM}High Moor which are now both displayed as High Moor. You can figure out which one's which from the area contents, but it would be nice if the DM-only text was displayed.

Please do not report bugs in forums or chat. They routinely get buried or forgotten when you do so.

This is why we have a ticket system.

So, it seems BG (and possibly TSM) ain't on board with the acr update for whatever reason...

Keep in mind that this means if you go from a 1.91 updated server (WHL, MS too I believe) to BG or TSM, you'll have to download OLD hak files all over again, over half a gig of downloading... which will overwrite the newer haks you might've dled from WHL/MS... and if you should decide to go back to WHL/MS (or BG/TSM decide to update), you'll have to do it all over again.

Especially relevant is that you dang dirty cross-version server hoppers represent additional manual work to check if you've acquired double PC hides (and to fix that if you have).

So, if you can avoid traveling from a v1.91 to a v1.90 server, please avoid that.
