"Foam and I have definitely butted heads on stuff since he joined ALFA last year, but I'm going to say this: vote for the guy who's been volunteering large amounts of unpaid time to fix things and who has the skills, knowledge, and competence; we can't have a TA who has never opened up the toolset and has no serious intentions about this.
Jern's a nice kid, probably is a fine RPer and will be a fine DM, but I've no idea why he did this, or why we allowed it, or why people are voting for him and telling Foam how much they don't appreciate his hard work."
+1
Please don't F this project by casting a troll ballot for someone who is not even seriously running. Otherwise the folks who build this project are gonna seriously start rethinking whether they should take their skills and toys off someplace else

I could not agree more. I have not always seen eye to eye with Foam, but he's willing and able to do the work. Voting against a candidate, regardless of the alternative, historically is not a great way to choose leaders.
Apparently six people think it is and should be a thing?
Pretty insulting if you ask me, though; Jern's never done anything for tech, and such a candicacy (or even pretending to take it seriously) trivializes the real work that the team does. A certain amount of that is to be expected-- most people don't and don't care to know, which is a bitter pill we all swallow early in getting into this sort of work, but this is rather extreme.
Foam (as many other ALFAns, such as myself) can be annoying. That aside he's doing awesome work and will take the TA hat and good on him (and us) for that.
So cheers to him and yay for us.
If people wanted to niddle him some (and no offence to Jern who's a good chap by all means, but not a tech force to be reckoned with) so be it. Doubt anyone would actualy rather not having Foam do the job.
Not everything deserves comment.

Interesting that these observations come from the last two TAs of ALFA.
This is in fact exactly the message delivered; ask Foam if that makes him feel excited and motivated. Ask him if in fact, he was considering withdrawing his candidacy this morning after seeing 40% of those who voted told him 'gtfolololol'.
The concern is not that Jern might win.

So, why did the guy that's been here for less than four months, decide to run for a crucial and important position?
There's no real reason. Yes, I put my name in ironically. Yes, I wanted to make a mockery of the system (Why? Cause it's a mockery worthy system.). No, I didn't have some inner motivation to subtly tell Foam that a good chunk of people don't appreciate his work.
So, where's the context in this? Why did this 21 year old punk decide to, out of the blue, make a joke out of the election? Story time, children.
A few weeks ago, Ronan jokingly said he was going to make little wee Jern a TA. I didn't think much of it. I didn't even know what TA stood for. I guess it just went from there. The joke was that I was an unknown, someone who knows literally NOTHING about D&D, and knows literally NOTHING about what tech does. Don't ask me, I didn't make up the joke. That recurred for a while, and was jokingly referred to here and there, blah blah, nothing special. Like I said, it was just some dumb teasing, because we all knew at this time that Foam was pretty uncontested on his position.
So "Jern for TA!" was used sparingly for a while. The self nominations thread came up, and Foam quickly self-nominated himself. Expected. No one else step up, and it was pretty agreed upon that Mr. Foamerson already secured his position, which he honestly did. Yesterday, Foam told me, "Hey Jern, run for TA, no one else ran". I laughed it off. Heh, whatever... Then I did. Didn't think about it, or the consequences, I just did it. Foam was pretty amused, by that, I think. He was spouting "Jern! Jern! Jern!" in IRC, he was encouraging (jokingly, because everything about this entire thing is a joke) people to vote for this Jern guy, he voted for me himself.
I was still kind of like, "Heh, whatever", and kind of let them run it's course. I wasn't expecting six votes at all. I was expecting no votes, I was expecting Foam to have a landslide victory because that's what he deserves. I don't think very strongly about those six votes (one of them being Foam, mind you.). I don't think they were insulting Foam. I think they were just trying to get in on our dumb little joke.
So yes, it may have been insulting. I only did it because I thought Foam was okay with me pushing the joke a bit more, and if you weren't Foam, I'm really sorry. You just didn't really seem offended by it, and felt kind of okay with it, so I really hope you're not upset at me for pushing it further. You're a friend, you know? And that feeling might not feel mutual at all after this stunt I pulled, but you really are.
No, none of this is a lie, or a cover up to keep myself from getting lynched by the angry crowd. I already got lynched, anyways. What's the point on trying to get on peoples' good side, you know? As long as Foam has no hard feelings with the stunt, I don't really care that everyone else views me as the satanic scumbag troll from hell.
If you want my opinion? Just give him the position now. Stop the dumb drama, the drama we never intended.

[22:46] <Ronan_> I once stabbed a man in Reno just to watch him bleed.
Unsurprisingly, the people who don't seem to understand the joke are getting uppity about it
First Character: Zyrus Meynolt, the serene Water Genasi berserker. "I am the embodiment of the oceans; serene until you summon the storm." Zyrus: http://tinyurl.com/9emdbnd
Second Character: Damien Collins, the atypical druid. "What? Being a stick in the mud is boring. No pun intended grins"
Western Heartlands HDM: On break. PM for emergencies
Some people just don't seem to understand that not everything's a joke, especially to the people actually doing the hard work, or those who give a damn about the morale of those folks.

Morale of those who are inspired to do the work that makes everything more fun for the rest of us, is so important. I agree.
