On DR say.. 5/Slashing should a +1 mace ignore the DR?

No. on DR5/slashing only a slashing weapon (or anything that does slashing damage) would ignore the DR.

Then why does a short sword not ignore the DR?

Short sword is a piercing weapon.

Even for a hin.

Small slashing weapon. Sickle (simple weapon) and Kukri maybe if you can use it.

Yeah, shortsword is pierce. Handaxe would be my default slash light weapon.
