DMing

Post by Nalo Jade »

Drama aside, ALFA is a noble cause.

I have been away for years now, during that time I spent a LOT of time playing and DMing on other servers, even working on my own PW (which never went live but was run for a small group of old PnP friends.)

I have applied to DM on every server, both NWN1 and NWN2. I was wondering what kind of response the current ALFA community has regarding this. I know I have put the cart before the horse, in asking the community's feelings AFTER sending in the application. But, I don't think it makes a big difference, the DM aaplication was pretty painless.

I DMed on Waterdeep, and guest DMed on Daggerford, and The Frozen North. I have worked well with more people here than I have disagreed with...

Though I concede that the confrontations I had, resulted in flame fests and some hurt feelings I am sure. For those people, I am sorry. For the community, I am sorry. I am committng to a flame free NJ.

I offer the following to all server teams.

1. I will accept and abide by all rules set forth by the HDMs.
2. I will not interfere with any other DM quests.
3. I will study the server, its documentation and am willing to take a test of my knowledge of the server prior to DMing.
4. I will observe how NPCs are played by the Host DMs and audition for the DM teams prior to attempting to roleplay the NPC.
5. I promise to work well with others even if I strongly disagree. I will abide by the HDMs decisions without public protest.

I am a former Marine StaffSergeant so I can follow orders, I have been a property Manager for senior citizens for the last 8 years, so I can be professional.

My purpose for desiring this is to provide the community with "Global DM Coverage". I would log into whichever server needed a DM the most. I would focus on new players on all servers.

[Edit] Essentially my goal would be to make the world seem more "alive" as often as possible.

I think we lose players who login to an empty server and eventually get bored. they would be my target player group. Basically I would DM where ever I was needed most each night.

[Edit] I would also see a benefit in furthering ambience of "global plots" if the server teams and DMA decide to run any such events.

As a "go between" DM I think I could help communication between each team.

I will forego my player status completely.

I do not have NWN2 yet, however I could use the time between now and when I get set up for NWN2 to study relevent documentation.

So, what does the community think?

Are there any HDMs/DM teams that would under no circumstances allow me to assist their server?

Are there any additional requirements that you would like me to abide by that I did not address in this post?

One more thing...

My far end goal would be to work on Cormyr as well.

I would like to bring Cormyr live and I would then grant DM access to ALL DMs from other servers.

Cormyr would be built with a focus on in game cue cards and the like to make DMing on the server as easy as possible for guest DMs.

Every relevent NPC would have a biography card with a personal journal so DMs would know there cannon history, mannerisms, speach style as well as their ALFA history. A persistent bulletin board to keep DMs abreast of ongoing quests and players, so they don't step on each others toes.

Okay thats it.

Not sure that I can fully address your questions but I can say that I did enjoy your DMing on WD with the Hand of Curna group.

Personally, I think that's a fantastic proposition that would benefit the community and overall morale of players across the board.

Plus, it'll be easier in the beginning when there are only a couple of servers that are actually live, so it'll be easier to jump between them as needed.

Although, I can't speak for the higher-ups and The Powers That Be. ;)

Nalo Jade is a stinky poo poo head and I will not work with him.

Unless of course, he is approved and then I will force him to DM all the time.

and force him to have the mandatory fun.

"stinky poo poo head"?

ROFLMAO.

Mandatory FUN!!! Sounds like Mikayla and her group of whip wielding lawyer-ish drow fem-bots from an ALFA WAR Saga.

I am totally in

[Edit] Darren I'm glad you had fun, I wish I would have stayed longer for you guys, but I am glad you are still around!

I was ALFA's first XDM (cross server DM) back in the day, and i think this is the best approach. Asking each individual team if they'll let you on. When it works out, its fantastic and really helps players out.

You already know you're welcome on my server any time.
There's a place I like to hide
A doorway that I run through in the night
Relax child, you were there
But only didn't realize and you were scared
It's a place where you will learn
To face your fears, retrace the years
And ride the whims of your mind

Thanks Ayergo!

you must have been reading my mind, I just sent a PM to each server "moderator", the DMA and Wynna asking for their input as well.

I am not sure that I actually got all the HDMs but I sent out a boat load of PMs, we'll see what happens.

I'll let you on if you can build 1 or 2 core areas (or more if you like)

I think alfa would benefit from having "world DMs" that run world plots and cross server events and also assisting where it is most needed. So im all for it and think the idea should expand to a "world DM" group that runs paralell/combined with the local server DMs.

Thangorn: I have only recently submitted my app for DMing, I do not have access to those threads you linked yet. I am just wondering what you mean by "core" area?

Xerxes: I agree that ALFA would benefit, and maybe one day it will have such a group. I think Ayergo made the first steps in this direction, I hope that I can follow suit. There is a LOT to consider though, most of all the HDMs and teams that have worked so hard to bring their server to live. The biggest hurdle is finding a way to ensure that a guest DM, that cannot be as qualified as the resident DMs does not make a mess of their server or plots.
