Cleave
It never happens to me, it never happens to me...
My character is level 4, and has attempted Cleave about four or five times totally, in a number of battles. It almost never seems to work. It's not like that in SP, or on other PWs I've been to. Is this particular to ALFA? Anyone else had this problem?

I don't think we have access to the code that runs cleave or great cleave without patching the game engine, and I've certainly seen cleave and great cleave work quite well in ALFA (and in SD, specifically, being that's where you've got your character.) If your character doesn't attempt a cleave, it tends to mean he either didn't deal the final blow or there are no enemies within the attack distance for the weapon.
It has worked fine for me for ages.
Whether you hit or not is entirely up to the d20 though.

- Currently NWN1 ALFA: Ryld Ky'bler
Currently NWN2: Gwindor Faelivrin, still not actually dead!
Formerly: Timyin Tim, Glorfindel Inglorion and Beleg Thalionestel amongst others.
Weapon reach is a big factor. If you're using a short sword or something, cleave will happen far less frequently than with a polearm.

There are occasional weird timing issues, say, when you make the kill the last second of the round, and I think a cap about the extra attacks - sometimes you end up cleaving your already dead enemy and not getting more than 6 extra attacks a round with great cleave.
But it does seem to work... hrm. Best take up the offer of a DM to test it oocly.

I'm not talking about missing with a cleave. It's when my character doesn't even attempt it, when I kill an enemy and there are others standing around, within what looks like range. I use a Dwarven War Axe.

There isn't reach like PnP, where you have the 10' polearms, but there is a "preferred attack distance" that determines how far away your PC is when he starts swinging.dergon darkhelm wrote:Really? I didn't think there were reach rules in NWN.
Does it happen consistently, or only some of the time? I noticed myself that you don't always cleave - for various reasons, timing in the round, proximity, getting interrupted by making an AoO instead (saw this actually kill a PC once, who tried drinking a potion but his toon decided to make AoOs in two rounds instead...). It's not a consistent feat that always works, but I always figured that was because there were limitations and conditions that are impossible to completely gauge in a semi-real timed graphical combat like NWN.Twin Axes wrote:I'm not talking about missing with a cleave.
